What would be the price range that I should be looking at for a locally delivered 997 Carrera S with less than 100,000km? And yes, if I do go through with this, a rust/corrosion check would have to be done.
Gavn Posted 3January, 2020 Report Share Posted 3January, 2020 A UK car will deliver you the same driving experience/thrills however may have more corrosion issues (which can be checked & will also be determined by how long it spent in UK prior to landing in Aus). It should cost you less to purchase than an Aus car (I think people in the past have talked 10 - 20% less) but you will also sell for the same margin less. lordvonpineapple

Thanks! I was really hoping to make this my forever car so resale is less of an issue (famous last words, I know). I did start looking at 993s to begin with but nothing that is a C2 manual coupe comes even close to my budget. Then while on holidays in Singapore, I saw so many 997s that my mindset changed. As an ex-Exige V6 owner, a few of my friends with Porsches have all also said to pick the 997 Carrera S over a 993 for my budget and also probably because they know I love track days and a little competition now and then. The Exige V6 was absolutely stunning/reliable for track days but extremely difficult to live with daily. Plus I was originally wanting a 997 C2S when I bought the Exige V6 anyway so Iâve come full circle realising I should have got what I wanted in the first place. Being in Perth also has its own idiosyncrasies regarding small selection, inspecting and test driving means a flight interstate, then potential damage when shipping from over East, local inspections for registration and high stamp duty. Iâve bought from over east several times by driving the car back but current conditions make the Nullarbor an unnecessary risk. If anyone knows of a 997 C2S that may suit my purposes, in good condition and low kilometres, please PM me. Thanks again. đ Gavn

Sure mine has 128xxxkm's but I'm not sure this car is worth $20k more than mine...even with the sports chrono, lower speedo reading and those rims.I could be wrong tho. Also the touchscreen doesn't look genuine. Thanks in advance. Breakfast point is pretty central, but knowing Sydney traffic the Northside options might be better, try Porsche Centre Willoughby too!  looking at the car in your link, as mentioned, appears to be an import, not an issue if itâs passes the health checks and you can buy it right (but something to be mindful of for resale), also for resale, Iâd be checking if he has all the original parts like the wheels and air box as itâs got aftermarket ones, not deal breakers but should you find yourself selling you will be limiting your audience a little, and theyâd be a little pricey to procure... I had breakfast with a mate this morning who has a 997.1 C2S, itâs a lovely car, I asked if heâd sell it.. no was the answer, sorry I canât help with an off market opportunity  đ but that should give you some confidence that your buying into something good... IMO the 997.1 Carrera S is THE best value for money water-cooled car right now! I scoured the marketplace a little, this one at Richmondâs in SA looks quite nice: https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2006-Porsche-911-Carrera-S-997-Manual-MY06/OAG-AD-18263204 Good luck and happy hunting GC9911

Thanks! Understood about the price hence negotiating now.  Odometer aside, do the options of the leather interior package, sports suspension and sports chrono add value? I am trying to ascertain if the basis for comparison is the same and that an import 2005 997.1 Carrera S with 75,000KM is actually only worth $71.5K? I would imagine the seller would be monumentally pissed off if I broached that price to buy his car. On the other side of the spectrum, there is another 2005 997.1 Carrera S with 27,067KM but no options being advertised for $110K. Granted I have no idea how long itâs been advertised for but the range in price is mind-boggling as that puts it within range of a 2009 997.2 Carrera S PDK with 48,350KM being advertised for $114K. đ€  22 minutes ago, edgy said: Breakfast point is pretty central, but knowing Sydney traffic the Northside options might be better, try Porsche Centre Willoughby too!  looking at the car in your link, as mentioned, appears to be an import, not an issue if itâs passes the health checks and you can buy it right (but something to be mindful of for resale), also for resale, Iâd be checking if he has all the original parts like the wheels and air box as itâs got aftermarket ones, not deal breakers but should you find yourself selling you will be limiting your audience a little, and theyâd be a little pricey to procure... I had breakfast with a mate this morning who has a 997.1 C2S, itâs a lovely car, I asked if heâd sell it.. no was the answer, sorry I canât help with an off market opportunity  đ but that should give you some confidence that your buying into something good... Again, as it is meant to be the car I plan to keep, the resale value and aftermarket  parts do not bother me in that regard BUT I will need the factory air box to pass WA Transport Inspection to get licensed. Wait, I just realised that the photos of the car has WA plates on it! More questions! đ€Â I am definitely a 997 convert due to the number of them I saw while holidaying in Singapore. In particular, a Mexico blue GT3 looked and sounded incredible on the road! As did a cream white 997 Carrera S CS. I did see that grey one you have linked to and it is further down my list further as a back up. This Silver 05 997.1 C2S has lower kilometres and is priced better so it is further up my list. đ

However, overtime and more pay is unfortunately NOT an option in my industry. More importantly, my previous car was a supercharged MY14 Lotus Exige V6 that was charge-cooled and tuned and that was the better value track car IMHO (am I going to be crucified for this?) as it was kinder on tyres, brakes (due to weight) and even engine components (if ever required) were much cheaper. I did a few sprints and time-attack style events with the WA Porsche Club and of course driving skills and experience count but I was not slower than a GT3 or a GT4 on the day on similar A050 semi-slicks. However, I realised that I wanted more comfort, to do more daily driving as well as road trips with my wife and thatâs where the track-focused aspect of the Exige wore me out. That and the plastics used and creaking everywhere and terrible depreciation. đ I guess the Carrera S will do most of what I want most of the time with aplomb whereas the GT3 will do least what I want the least of the time. Okay, granted, my mates and guys at the pub and Cars and Coffee will love it and play top trumps and the rest of it but Iâve come to terms with the reality of what I actually will use it for. đŹ   Spets87, firstone, GC9911 and 2 others
Shedpest Posted 5January, 2020 Report Share Posted 5January, 2020 I like yourself was in the same boat 12 months ago and had my heart set on a 997 C2 manual after selling a 996. After lots of deliberation I decided to pursue a GT car over a Carrera. Yes they are more money but for a âkeeperâ car it will more viable than a Carrera. GT cars seem better bang for buck If you are going to drop $100k on a Carrera. GTP911
Dave997S Posted 5January, 2020 Report Share Posted 5January, 2020 There were a few 997.1 C2S cars available when I bought mine that were UK / Irish imports and they sat forever on CarSales and were all under $70k from memory.
