deviedope Posted 17January, 2020 Report Share Posted 17January, 2020 Hi all I'm new to this forum. Seeking some tips re buying a used Boxster in Sydney. Apologies if I'm skipping some formalities here. Do they exhibit issues for repair a lot? Used to have a used Merc SLK that developed a manifolds issue which apparently was common in that model. Would like to avoid that. I don't know too much about cars but always wanted a convertible Porsche. A used Boxster seems to be the realistic option. Around $40K-$60K mark. Saw some comment that a 987.2 is the sweet spot? https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-best-year-for-a-used-Porsche-boxster Any tips? Thanks a lot. t888 Posted 17January, 2020 Report Share Posted 17January, 2020 The earliest Boxsters, from around 1997 through 2004, had issues as they were released when Porsche was near bankruptcy and Porsche took some short cuts. By 2009 porsche quality was much better. In my opinion the 987.2 (MY 2009-2012) is the sweet spot in that price range. there have been a few listed around 40k + . There's one at autohaus hamilton listed at around $48k + on roads. (no affiliation) it has been listed for a while now so it might be a bit overpriced. https://csndealers.carsalesnetwork.com.au/details/2009-porsche-boxster-no-badge-987/OAG-AD-15946148?dealerId=AGC-SELLER-15162 The 981 series, released 2012, in my opinion looks much better and seems to be pretty reliable but listings are around $60k upwards. Some people dislike the electronic steering introduced with this model. Generally with Porsches it is recommended to get a specialist to do a thorough inspection called a pre purchase inspection (PPI) which will highlight any potential high cost issues. Use this as leverage for price negotations. deviedope

flamingporsche Posted 19January, 2020 Report Share Posted 19January, 2020 Have you seen this... Not quite in your sweet spot as it’s a 987.1, but incredible value for money https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2006-Porsche-Boxster-987-Manual-MY06/SSE-AD-6390342 deviedope

Those decals will all come off and there seems to be a beautiful car under there ... check out the last 2 photos. Oh, and if you are limiting your search to Sydney cars only, be prepared to wait a while and compromise on what you want. I reckon 99% of people on here have and would be prepared to buy a car from anywhere in Aus ... It will probably handle better than any other standard Boxster out there given the suspension mods Flaming has done to this..... flamingporsche
