sleazius Posted 28February, 2020 Report Share Posted 28February, 2020 Talk about using the whole road jeez. Few brown moments early on with the car skipping half the lane too. I know it has been watered down now that it is paved, but its still a very scary event. Raven
Dalai Posted 28February, 2020 Report Share Posted 28February, 2020 Scary indeed! I rode up and down Pike's Peak on my bike as part of a 3 week Western States Col bagging trip back in 2013. Once you get past Glen Cove around half way (where Rangers actually check brake temps on all descending vehicles!) it's above the treeline, so any offs will be a long way down! Then there is how the cars still perform with the reduced oxygen especially towards the top that sneaks over 4000m above sea level! It is really noticeable under any exertion. firstone Posted 28February, 2020 Report Share Posted 28February, 2020 Yeah i guess it makes sense. The logistics of preparation and seal that far up, not to mention it goes nowhere. I mean it's not a trade route or anything is it.
81SC Posted 28February, 2020 Report Share Posted 28February, 2020 Every now and again I'll rewatch the Ari Vatanen 1988 Pikes Peak video, I remember first seeing this footage at the Sydney motor show. Dalai, firstone and Peter M
