Current Insurance Landscape..

So I thought I’d throw it out there to see if anyone’s recently tried to get a new quote on a PCar.
So the story is I just sold my 4S which was insured with Famous @ $1,300 odd who I’ve been more than happy with. So I pick up the phone to get them to quote me on the letters of G&T. Expecting something higher as I got a query quote 12 months ago for $2,100.

the guy on the phone says brace yourself,

$8k!

I have a completely cleaning driving and insurance record.😳 says the market has just started to change on anything exotic or supercar as there have been lots of claims lately and people keep crashing them. Called a coupe of other Specialist insurers eg lumleys, who won’t even touch it...

So anyone seeing similar things out there in insurance land? Any suggestions? At $8k it could be worth self insuring...

JB, I renewed insurance on our cars in December, so not that long ago.

With Shannons, and staying with them, as Famous, Enthusiast etc were + 50% higher

We have 2013 981 Boxster - wife's daily drive      $1333  on $71k

2002 996.2  ultra limited use        $788 on $49k

2013 Touareg V6 TDI - my daily drive      $877 on $41.5k

Just added the 996 GT3  earlier this month       $1013 on $115k, restricted usage, had to prove I had CAMS / MA Licence and experience driving "high performance" vehicle

And this was on basis of having had $12k at fault claim 2 years ago

Anyone with Famous? - Has something changed there?Just got my renewal notice and it's more than double last year - WTF!

Quoted current value is almost $15k less as well.

A quick Enthusiast on line quote is what I was expecting to pay.

Guess it's goodbye famous.

All my cars are with Famous. My policy for the 84 Carrera coupe on club plates recently needed renewing and went up this year, but not double! Agreed value stayed the same at $120K, but the policy went up from ~$650 to ~$725.

I did call up to query and was told the change was due to the underwriter.

I've not had a chance to call yet - but will query it.

For comparison - 2004 996 last year was $1711 - This years quote is $3615.

I'll also try MB insurance as mentioned above.

A work colleague just had his Famous renewal arrive for a 991. Premium was a 30% uplift from last year.  Ouch.

Ouch to both! I was initially with Porsche insurance when I first bought my car as both Shannons and Lumley wouldn't even provide a quote as at the time didn't have a garage. Was happy with the service but was around $1100.

Do you have a limited KM policy - high excess?

Sorry being a bit nosy!

What this is showing is the real inconsistencies between quotes from the same  and different companies.  I'm sure there's a reason, and I'm not involved in the industry in any way, but it really makes it very hard.

For example, I can't work out why Famous and Enthusiast would be nearly 50% higher than Shannons on my cars, when for others, Famous is the cheapest???  I insured the LHD GT3 with Famous as it wasn't road registered (pretty much got layup cover) but it did give me the option of the $100 for $10k cover participating in a motorsport event, which they said wouldn't be available if I got registration under Tassie's Class B Special Interest rego.  Just as a matter of interest, their annual layup cover premium was $593, whereas I now pay less than double that for more than double the cover on the fully road registered RHD GT3, on the 2 times/wk use basis.

My head hurts!!!!!

Tried Porsche insurance? Speak to Joe.

I’ve got mine with Famous, renewal was just issued in December, slight increase in premium and slightly decreased values... I should be contacting them about that, it was sneaky since it’s an “agreed value” policy and I never was consulted about a movement down...

have a bunch of cars with them, but when I tried to add an A3 last September it was insane $$$

Timely discussion... Can anyone recommend a good insurance broker?

987 Cayman S - 32 years old, garaged.

Best I can get is Enthusiast - $1.2k, limited km's, agreed value.

Shannons is 2.7k... Lumleys is 3.9k... Others won't touch.

Will probably just go with Enthusiast, but just thought I'd check any other avenues.

Thanks
