CarreraG50 Posted 15May, 2020 Report Share Posted 15May, 2020 Hi All, Car is booked in next week for four new RE003's, the shop has recommended a nitrogen fill @ $9.90 a tyre, apparently more stable pressures as they heat up, as well as less loss when the car is sitting (which it does a lot). I have a compressor, so maintaining pressure isn't a big deal, what do you think Yes or No TIA John
OZ930 Posted 15May, 2020 Report Share Posted 15May, 2020 The atmosphere is 78% nitrogen, so unless you are racing or operating in sub zero temperatures, why bother... Raven, CarreraG50, Cheshire Cat and 1 other 3
Peter M Posted 15May, 2020 Report Share Posted 15May, 2020 John doesn't hold back, as expected: https://autoexpert.com.au/posts/top-10-reasons-why-nitrogen-wont-help-your-tyres As for RE003's, I've had two sets, love 'em and have never thought of them as being leaky. I haven't searched for replacements for my 15" x 7" and 8" Fuchs for a while as I gave up last time. CarreraG50
Raven Posted 15May, 2020 Report Share Posted 15May, 2020 Unless you are racing or doing sustained high speeds ,,,,it is not worth it ....I just keep my tire pressures at the recommended psi for my spirited road use on my 997 ... I dont even use nitrogen on my dedicated track car ,,,,I work with the 5 psi difference from cold tire to Hot tire pressure ... StevepGT3 Posted 15May, 2020 Report Share Posted 15May, 2020 I heard years ago that F1 Tyres were filled with nitrogen, but done in a vacuum chamber( or something like that ) so there was no possible contamination with normal air, and unless done this way you were just pulling your pudd CarreraG50
LeeM Posted 15May, 2020 Report Share Posted 15May, 2020 One way to waste $39.60 I s'pose. Just an upsell by the shop to take your money mate. It's pointless for a road car WB997.2GTS, Allan C and CarreraG50 2
Merv Posted 17May, 2020 Report Share Posted 17May, 2020 We have all been there at some stage with nitrogen in tyres. No need IMO. Great tyres BTW. CarreraG50
