Cheshire Cat Posted 7June, 2020 Report Share Posted 7June, 2020 Well. a while ago I was interested in a new clutch kit/disk+bearing for my "project" and I realized that with everyone`s favorite Sachs it is a bit tricky. Basically how I see this things - we have: 1. Basic Sachs clutch kit (pressure plate + disk + bearing) - 721.75 USD (at pelicanparts) 2. Sachs Power clutch (basically the same as above but aluminium pressure plate instead the cast iron one) - 898.25 USD (same source) 3. Mysterious Sachs Performance kit which consist of some kind of pressure plate and disk - 804.33 euro (from sachs performance official website minus VAT) Did I miss something? Paul Carrera Posted 7June, 2020 Report Share Posted 7June, 2020 I changed to the power clutch kit and it made a huge difference, the car revs so much easier than the standard. After researching the lightened flywheel option I decided it wasn’t really that suitable for street use
81SC Posted 7June, 2020 Report Share Posted 7June, 2020 No affiliation, check out Heritage Parts Centre from England. Their prices seem competitive compared to the usual USA suppliers. I’ve been looking at their stuff since one of their guys posted on this site. https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/au/91511691100-clutch-kit.html

Mike D'Silva Posted 7June, 2020 Report Share Posted 7June, 2020 I know this isn't what you were asking, but I have been buying my clutch kits from James at Autohaus.. really competitive when you included overseas shipping and conversion rates. Yeah not really, but thank you, it`s good to know. Apparently I have an access to a very good parts source with pretty good prices. Tried to figure things with the clutch kits to start with
Merv Posted 8June, 2020 Report Share Posted 8June, 2020 I never buy from the US anymore and prefer Autohaus Hamilton or BWA.

A different P car (996) compared to your project, but for me, favourite Sachs depends on your" project" and primarily how much torque you expect to be pumping out and can the clutch pressure plate hold the torque. Below is the list of clutch parts for my project. The clutch kit I chose was based around a Sachs pressure plate that can hold up to 890nm of torque on paper. All the other part numbers (second column ) are Porsche factory clutch part numbers spanning aircoooled and watercooled era's for my project. The part numbers not in bold, were purchased as part of a clutch kit. The rest of the parts are preventative maintenance, i.e. engine / gearbox dropped why not replace those parts getting closer to 20 years old in my case. Re: Kit 1 vs Kit2 above, when you say basically the same, not convinced. I would expect Kit 2 is rated to hold more torque than kit 1 as well as shedding a little bit of weight. Can't you look up the sach's part number (generally start with an 8) , in the kit and drill down on the specs, noting torque rating and that's probabaly driving the price differentials. Well, that actually is the thing. When I was looking for this sort of information I stumbled pretty hard. I can`t find any torque capabilities of named kits whatsoever. The things I know for sure - the "normal" kit comes in parts, so you can order either the disk or the pp or bearing or all together, the "power clutch" kit comes only as a kit. But neither of those have any torque numbers. On the other hand the Sachs Performance clutch kit names the torque handling - 420 Nm or so don`t remember. In my case I have a disk from an aftermarket clutch company named Action Clutch (6 puck sprung handling about 400+ Nm) so, we shall see... Merv Posted 8June, 2020 Report Share Posted 8June, 2020 I am not sure which car you have with which mods but if a stock fitting, I would call James at Autohaus and give him your VIN and he will specify the exact parts you need. It can be a shot in the dark otherwise.

I was trying to figure a few detail about the kits, but seems like not so many people digging into this that deep.
