Porsche has withdrawn a significant number of the factory drivers, engineering and support staff that were due to take part in this weekend’s Nürburgring 24 Hours after three positive COVID-19 tests from amongst Porsche Motorsport and Manthey Racing staff who were on-site at le Mans were returned.

The decision affects nine racing drivers who were to take part in six different 911 GT3 Rs from four customer teams this coming weekend and has led to the immediate withdrawal of the #911 Manthey-Racing “Grello” entry.

The teams and drivers affected are:

KCMG (#18): Richard Lietz, Patrick Pilet, Romain Dumas
KCMG (#19): Romain Dumas
Frikadelli Racing (#31): Matt Campbell, Michael Christensen, Kévin Estre
Falken Motorsport (#33): Thomas Preining
Falken Motorsport (#44): Matteo Cairoli
Manthey-Racing (#911): Julien Andlauer, Matt Campbell

Porsche is in the process of assisting the teams affected for solutions to replace the missing drivers, no mean feat taking into account the requirement for a ‘Ring Permit

Fritz Enzinger (Head of Motorsport): “For us, people’s health comes first. Given the current situation, it is absolutely clear to us that we put our sporting goals behind those of the common good. We will do everything we can to give our customer teams the best possible support in the upcoming race with capable staff and the available works drivers. ”

Nicolas Raeder (Managing Director Manthey-Racing GmbH): “We made the decision together with Porsche Motorsport. We, der, Grello ‘and the Nordschleife belong together. But under these circumstances, it is clear to everyone at Manthey-Racing that the health of everyone involved has priority in the 24-hour race. ”

There is no news yet of any decision on the drivers due to take part in this weekend’s IMSA race at Mid Ohio who also took part at Le Mans.
