Pickles auction - 12 October 2020

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I’m a long time lurker first time poster.

While i understand it’s not seen as the best place to buy a Porsche (and I understand why), I noticed there are quite a few nice looking Porsche’s on Pickles at the moment, most of them scheduled to be auctioned on 12 October in Sydney, including a 991 Turbo with very low kms. There is also a 996 GT3 RS in Tasmania.

My family circumstances dictate that I need an SUV at this stage, so I was wondering what do you all think of the 2014 Cayenne Turbo S?  I noticed from a Google search of the number plate (EHL98V) that it had been advertised by Prestige Auto Traders. I’m hoping they didn’t discover something wrong with it and that’s why its up for auction..?

Other options that would do the job as the family hauler (with a lot less fun but probably less risk of expensive repairs...?) are the 2016 Macan or the 2019 Cayenne S.

How much do you think these cars will go for and, as someone who is not mechanically minded, what can I do to protect myself from a pickles horror story?  I appreciate some of you will probably say the best way is to stay away from Pickles!

Cheers

Marcus

If you are serious get one of the many third party inspection services to go to site and do a ppi in situ. IMHO if you are buying a suv no need for a specialist Porsche inspection, any trained mechanic with a OBDI scan tool can spot the worst issues like accident damage or major fault code. Everything else is fixable.....just add money.

I would also do some research on the issue of transfer case failures, this is a known issue.

No such thing as a cheap Porsche - you either pay up front for a good car or pay during your ownership. Some people roll the dice and get lucky, just make sure your wallet and brain are conditioned for the ride.
