What are the top 5 performance upgrades to do to a 3.6l on a 964

How deep are your pockets?

Without going down the route of an engine rebuild, for the budget-conscious I would do a chip, exhaust and solid engine mounts - it won't make a stack more power but it will at least sound faster. Then some coil-overs and a good suspension set-up so it handles. Airboxes are a waste of time and money.

Hi, I’ve got a stock 3.6l what are your top performance upgrades I could do to squeeze out more power. Eg chip (if so what one) air intake again if so which one ?

993 Varioram and Wong chip. ECU rejig to suit.  993 exhaust with mini muffler.

Ok I should have stipulated just “Bolt ons” - obviously an engine rebuild is the ultimate way but that’s not necessary yet.

Thanks what kind of extra kw can I expect to gain from such a setup over stock?

Of all the changes I've made to my 3.6 964 the MAF has delivered the most in terms of performance benefits. Has made the engine so much more responsive to throttle inputs and, even after a few months I can genuinely feel the difference.

Other than that I'd look at engine mounts and coilovers to really enhance the handling. Ultimately the 964 platform is a fantastic momentum car. Dial in the handling and you'll be carrying great speed everywhere.

The Rennlist 993 forum has lots of relevant information on this subject. Here is an example:

"The advantage of the Vram comes from having a variable intake runner system that maintains intake flow velocities, thereby enhancing the momentum effects of the intake charge pulse. The Varioram plenum / intake stacks have three modes, 2 plenums and has a 2 throttle plate progressive throttle body. It works along the same premise as a progressive 2 BBL carburettor back in the "good 'ol days"...

To really appreciate the Vram, you have to want better midrange torque. From an overall max. power aspect, there is not much gain. However, the torque increase at 3800 RPM is almost 50 ft. lbs. of torque. If you think about how that effects the torque curve and how that torque would be valuable to the driver at the RPM, then the value of the Vram can be appreciated."

You may have already done something but the Sharkwerks have a kite that is very good. There are a few articles out there that say how much it improves the car.

https://www.sharkwerks.com/c_software-tuning

There is also the people in the UK who made the ECU and they do a kit thats similar and a little cheaper .

https://www.specialist-components.co.uk/index.php/shop/engine-management/posche-engine-management/porsche-911-964-management-kit.html

I'm considering one of these or going the hole 3.8 route. Good luck.
