GT3 CUP CAR SHAKEDOWN ON A WET NOVEMBER MORNING

I was lucky enough to be invited to watch and ride with Christian Pancione in his new 2016 GT3 Cup car at Sandown this morning. Weather was positively awful with the car wearing full wet setup … but still didn’t spoil the ride, amazing experience and an amazing young driver.

Extremely spirited TLT, (Tuesday lunchtime targa) from Coolangatta the back way to Mt Tambourine … so so filthy I had to turn around and do it again backwards for home ... Think Warburton through Reefton to Healesville x 10. Fuch all traffic, no Mr Plods but used an entire tank of juice at Qld bandit prices. 3 x Mclarens near Hinze dam turn off looked quite exotic and came up upon a very sharp white 991 Turbo S in Tweed Heads... probably stolen:ph34r:

Well,.... it's actually where did you drive your Porsche for the last three days....

5 of us got together to plan the next 2019 "3 dayer", with the recce  starting Friday and leaving from launching Place. (great name for the start of an adventure)

Weather was perfect for a country drive so we headed off, without boring you all with where we went I will just put up a few photos.

1280K later and I'm now back home having done my bit to pollute the planet using 139Litres of .98 at a cost of $210.48

We had superb weather for Friday and Saturday, but today we went from blizzard conditions to half reasonable.

I didn't take a lot of photos, there was just too much driving to be done, so only at the stop spots basically.

DAY 1....

Launching Place

Launching Place Start Line

Mt Buller

Mt Buller 2

Nearly 330K's or thereabouts from Launching Place we were at the top of Mt Buller, enjoying the sun.

And around 400 K for the day by the time we got back to the accommodation for cool drinks and debrief

Day 2....

Mt Beauty

Mt Beauty for a quick confab, and then off again too....

FALLS CREEK

Falls Creek.    Weather perfect once again, only problem with that was that it coaxed out all the lycra lizards which tended to be a tad hazardous. (for them mainly)

Mt Buffalo

Then after falls, we eventually ended up here at Mt Buffalo.   400 k's thereabouts for the day

DAY 3........

Woke up to thunder and lightning.   Also the BRIGHT push bike classic was on this morning leaving Bright at 8 to head to Hotham.

So we got our skates on, and got out of town and on the road before they had assembled.   Our plan, to get to Hotham before they closed the road off for them.

Anyway the mission was a success, it pelted down and was misty all the way up the mountain, cutting visibility and speeds.

I found my My PS4S'S are just as sensational in wet conditions as they are in the dry.

Bright motel

Motel triple Butt Shot Before leaving, two of the big bangers with the runt of the litter

Mt Hotham 1

View from the croc as we arrive at the summit of Hotham

Mt HothamMt Hotham 3Mt Hotham 2

Then down the mountain to brekky at Omeo....Good luck to the lycra lizards who would have just left Bright to come up to Hotham

Omeo 2OMEO 1Omeo Doug

Dougy and his 993

Omeo Chris

Chris and his GT4

Omeo Steve

Steve and his GT3

Omeo Tman

Tman and his 993

Omeo Niko

Yours truly with my BBC

And another 400 k or thereabouts...

I drove there in the wet a few weeks ago, 32 different bitumen surfaces from memory.

Surface changes everywhere, grip - no grip. The only good thing was when you were sliding on crap bitumen - you would find something that gripped within a few meters.

Sounds like Oran Park. That was slippery in the dry on a Superbike!

Great photos and trip Niko, pity the weather turned in the alps ... we're blessed with the high country on our doorstep huh!

Yes mate, fantastic roads, and the weather just added to a different driving experience.   We are lucky down here in Mexico, no doubt.

Headed up to watch a bit of the Adelaide Rally, and had the best day yet on my own in the hills

  • 4 weeks later...

5 of us had a drive day today, swapping around cars mostly, 10-15 k drive in each car.  Ticked a few cars off my bucket list - 996 GT3RS (crude, squirrely under light braking, crap steering on the road, but I'm told sensational on the track) , E Type Jag (revved like buggery but huge torque with blueprinted engine), Aston DB6 (just like a big boat, great on the straights with a huge, low revving engine, but wallowy in the corners).  Interesting run over the Holwell Targa Tasmania stage on a sensational day, follwed by luch as Goaty Hill Winery.  Great day with friends 🙂

Interesting that the owner of the E Type and DB6 chose our 981 as his favourite drive of the day 🙂

Was out car spotting of sorts on the way to one of my favourite stretches of road just 45 minutes out of Perth. Spotted this poor bugger of a car. Obviously a victim of theft.

Had a 997.1 RS.... But that 996 Gt3 RS was just so much purer.... has always been on my bucket list. The ultimate bridge car between the air cooled and water cooled machines I feel. Now to go get my lotto ticket...

Quick fang through The Adelaide Hills in the GT3 with wifey & morning coffee stop at Stirling.  A beautiful Adelaide morning, with just enough of a light sun-shower to give me an excuse to spend the rest of the day cleaning the old girl (the GT3 that is!).

Then she’ll be tucked back into the garage next to the daily drive.  Already looking forward to the next drive.

Lovely car. I managed to catch up with a few of the SA crew this morning, very envious of your roads so close to the city.

Quiet drive from home down to McLaren Vale, via Blackwood and Clarendon. Stopped in for lunch and a couple of tastings then home.

Must have been the day for it passed a grey Boxster with track decals as we headed out of Blackwood ( he was heading to town) on main road and saw a yellow 981 at a T intersection half way to Clarendon.

Any chance you can shed some light on where that stretch of road is 45 min out of Perth

House renting is cheap mate 😁

Supposedly we have the only house available in Adelaide with a pool for under $500 per night! As I said to Vic, it makes you grateful for what we have at home. Little things like..........a dishwasher. 😂

And as I mentioned yesterday, you could have rented my joint for $400/night, and I would have even set up a Kmart plastic pool for you at no extra cost 👍 (I really should get that out of the box after it sitting there for a year 😄

Lorne to Aireys today for a pint of Rogue Wave Ale at the Aireys Pub with the missus.  First time she's been in the car in over 2 years - was great fun. We came across the usual summer holiday traffic on the G.O.R. but (amazingly)  had 3 separate cars heed the signs to pull over for a following vehicle.  That never happens.  (BTW, there is no photographer in the back seat - my wife is a master of the selfie).
