Yesterday I went to fire her up, it won't unlock, LEDs still flashing on dash. Key won't unlock door manually with, it just turns in both directions. I managed to open engine lid with emergency cable. I put a charger over night , tested voltage, 13.0 V Still won't open, not with remote or manually with key, tried all keys. As a left field suggestion, check if there's a keyed lock on passenger's side (haven't got access to my .1GT3 to check). If so, see if key will open that and therefore central locking. Have had a similar issue with an early 986 Boxster, where the driver's lock just rotates freely, but passenger's worked fine..... Rick V Posted 15November, 2020 Report Share Posted 15November, 2020 On my 996, if you don't unlock the central locking for more than 4 days, you have to put the key into drivers door lock, quarter clockwise turn, then press button on the key..... this will unlock the car ..... apparently a typically German way of saving power from the battery?!? You may be lucky to disconnect the battery, wait half an hour, reconnect and the key 'may' wake up and let you in. All he can access is the engine compartment thro' the emergency cable. It sounds like the lock mechanism is turning with the key - which is another problem altogether as the remote key fob will not work until the door lock is physically "unlocked". White_996 Posted 16November, 2020 Author Report Share Posted 16November, 2020 Update We are in. Found frond bonnet release cable behind side indicator. Disconnected the battery for 5 minutes. Reconnect and remote worked. I'm in. Car fired up, Happy dance. I can sleep. Key still operating the lock manually, so some investigation required there, something has come loose. st3ve Posted 16November, 2020 Report Share Posted 16November, 2020 Good to hear, reminds me to go back and locate the emergency frunk release cable and make sure it is accessible from somewhere. Odd about your physical lock though, my car's remotes were not working for years and it was always possible to just unlock the drivers door normally (then turn on ignition quickly to avoid alarm going off). With the sketchy reliability of the 996 remotes it's certainly something that should be operational. FTR If you have a flat battery on a 996.2, there is an electrical jump-point in the foot well fuse box to power up the frunk release circuit. It's shown in the manual.
