CapnHyaku Posted 17November, 2020 Report Share Posted 17November, 2020 I have something in mind that I can't see if anyone else has done before or not. But maybe some have and failed and I should learn from their mistakes... I want to delete the centre console because of my height and knees and comfort. Also, I dislike the flimsy cupholder, wonder of engineering that it is. I am thinking I can remove the cupholders and just fit the climate controls and a double-din head unit in the space there. There will be some hacking at the plastic and some hand made metal brackets. Has anyone heard of this being done before? Am I on a fool's errand? Carrera28 Posted 17November, 2020 Report Share Posted 17November, 2020 There is a kit: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Porsche-996-997-Carrera/75-BODY-GT3_Center_Console_Delete/75-BODY-GT3_Center_Console_Delete.htm
CapnHyaku Posted 17November, 2020 Author Report Share Posted 17November, 2020 Thanks for the link, I am aware of the console conversion kits. My question is about fitting the climate controls AND a double din media head unit in the dashboard with the cupholders removed. Sorry if that wasn't clear. Nah Cap'n, man up, delete the console and go for a nice and easy Continental single DIN radio and cup holders that clip onto the forward door pocket....... michel

Thanks anyway for responding! I’m in a similar dilemma sir. Trying to resolve where I could relocate the HVAC . Have access to 3D print. however, so far nothing resolved, as only logical though inconvenient location for HVAC is setback under dash where the delete panel is. If it’s about reverse camera ? could man up put on chaps ala @TwoHeadsTas go with sgl Din unit/ reverse mirror/HVAC combo and delete centre console . Something I might consider. picking up on last comments @hugh @DJM on the 964 thread .. 996 sans HVAC might not be as enticing as a ballsy 964. P.a never thought 964 a/c that bad. Carrera28 Posted 20November, 2020 Report Share Posted 20November, 2020 Would you be able to fit the the HVAC unit into the centre console storage unit between the seats? If it fits inside that space surely you could run the wires between the centre tunnel and the centre console into the storage container. It would be tucked away, but still easily accessible. It's a great idea and it would fit but the wire bundle is not long enough I have found today. And there are A LOT of tiny wires to patch if I wanted to extend it. Centre console is out and I have spent the better part of today figuring out what the previous head unit installer had done. There were so many wires patched unnecessarily and a really scrappy RCA and power lead to the centre console for a digital radio unit. 18 years of knee rubbing captured in a piece of trim:

CapnHyaku Posted 22November, 2020 Author Report Share Posted 22November, 2020 I think the best solution is: 1. Cut outs of the black frame. 2. Folded sheet metal frame connecting to the lower rear points and resting on the lower dash. michel and tomo
CapnHyaku Posted 30November, 2020 Author Report Share Posted 30November, 2020 I am asking a nearby sheet metal workshop how much for a one off. I plan to trim and drill the first one and then get a final one done based on the first prototypes dimensions. tomo and michel
