bergerac Posted 26November, 2020 Report Share Posted 26November, 2020 Ive come across a 996 with front end damage which Im interested in building up as a track car. I have rebuilt written off cars before so not completely green but Im not very familiar with Porsches so Im wondering what are the things to look out for on the 996 which get expensive fast? So far it at least needs a bumper, fenders, bonnet and headlights, not sure about the condition of the front rails/tub yet but will be inspecting it soon. Have a complete 986/996 front end cut for not much money if your tub and rails are damaged. You only need to get from Tas to WA and then graft it on to your car 🙂 Probably worth doing for a 996, not for a Boxster though...... Well it definitely needs rails and a tub, the rails are about 50mm too short, was about to talk myself out of it but tell me more about this cut? 2 hours ago, tomo said: Anything Porsche gets expensive fast Well relative to base level Porsche expensive haha. Wont ever be a show car but I also don't want to spend straight car money fixing a bent car. firstone and tomo
LeeM Posted 26November, 2020 Report Share Posted 26November, 2020 Only from what I read on the forum recently, a 996 might not be the best idea as a track car with engines popping its lunch on occasion

Boxster cut across the tub behind door opening. I'll see if I can locate some photos. Can supply RH guard, inner bumper and few other bits, but you'd still need to source front bumper, LH guard etc. Probably need someone to confirm Boxster tub will fit, but it is my understanding that it does

I bought the FVD extended sump kit for my new engine for exactly this reason, just to be safe... LeeM
