Nick, I'm no expert but if everything about that car was good, I'd say it was still a full price ticket buy. But given the limited photos, it's history and the fact that no one could have a good look at it before purchase, I'd say the buyer has taken quite a financial risk. My experience is that the reality is always worse than what is shown in the photos! npvpositive

Yep I bet you are right on this one too. I had photos of the UK listed targa sent through and it makes for a very interesting viewing. To my untrained eye, I swear the car has been badly beaten up and repaired. The final product does look and present extremely well though. One photo potentially shows some unscrupulous activity Peter M

Mike D'Silva Posted 12January, 2021 Report Share Posted 12January, 2021 Targas are brilliant. And this one in silver looks fab. Last one of the C3 in targa I think sold for 100k plus
Coastr Posted 12January, 2021 Report Share Posted 12January, 2021 I have taken a look at the site. As a long term bat afficianado and inveterate internet ad browser I’m not particularly impressed with collecting cars. Apart from the site having a distinct UK feel, overrun with yellow plates and the somewhat strange language they use to sell cars in the uk, it doesn’t allow me to filter by make, country of sale, price range or anything like that. It also seems as though the buyer premium isn’t capped at any point leading to some possibly high buyers commissions. The Australian side of things feels tacked on and not well integrated to me. I’ll keep an open mind and see where it goes. There is a great opportunity for an Australian auction site for enthusiast vehicles but it will need to address local conditions and help with photographers, a dedicated local audience and all the rest. Coastr Posted 13January, 2021 Report Share Posted 13January, 2021 The slow loading page and graphics sent me running for the back button. I live in hope bat will expand ...or maybe cars and bids. Or someone local starts a passion project on a good experience over cashing in.

Totally agree. Also, the level of detail on the listings and descriptions is nowhere near that of BaT. If I’m buying sight unseen I want to see detail of known rust areas and the floor / pan. Most importantly, though is the community on BaT - lots of pointy questions that are quickly answered by keen sellers inspires confidence in buyers. The 2 platforms are Miles apart IMO. If only they would come down under....

I heard the founder interviewed a while back and I think he mentioned they were selling 300+ cars a week! The knowledge in their community base is off the charts. Nikos Posted 18January, 2021 Report Share Posted 18January, 2021 Think the seller may have be the current owner of Indian Automotive, a VW specialist based in Penrith. They repair and restore old VW's, in particular Kombi's. Given the sellers line of business, it looks like this may have been initially sourced with the intention to repair and flip? So I guess that begs the question .. does this auction site actually work, or are the sellers expectations too high?? (all sellers, not this car in particular) .. Mike-S Posted 17March, 2021 Report Share Posted 17March, 2021 I think it’s a mixture of both tbh. CC is new in Australia and hasn’t yet got the right confidence level of the local market, historically auctions are where you sell off a motor with a few issues. The bloke spruiking the cars is popping up all over facetube groups as well, it doesn’t seem to be working properly for them. Conversely in the U.K. and Europe it’s got a steady reputation and has garnered some significant sales, there’s a few Aussie cars that have been bought by U.K. buyers, both the recent 2 door Range Rovers for example and they fetched good money.
