Pembo Posted 7May, 2021 Report Share Posted 7May, 2021 Found some more of the favourites. I did change cars quite a lot back in the good old days. My mates had the Lancias and Fiats 124 and 125 and 128 so I had to try the Italian for a while. The Sud was great but a rust bucket. The Fairlane was like driving a land yacht and i could never keep enough fuel in it. The Sillycar was the 72 flatlight, should have kept that one too. The Mustang was Dads. The Muddy Alfa was thanks to a mate with his Escort spinning wheels in a puddle. The lovely lass got covered too. She was a little bit cranky. He actually filled the whole back of the car with mud, we had to hose it out. Time period is late 80's to early 90's. Locations Bayswater, Arthurs Seat, Torquay and Narooma for the muddy one. Your GMP&A Would be worth some serious coin these days , I did the same with my L34 purchased it for $15000 unfinished project the owner had repainted 2 pak in white with gold stripes body was sound and flawless paint work but all the running gear eg Engine ,trans, Diff, bushes etc needed redoing ,,,did all that don,t recall what I spent,,, tracked the car regularly for 4 years then sold it for $50,000 in 2004 when the Aussie muscle cars started to climb ,,had two guys come up to me at the track and made an offer gave them my ph number and said if you are serious call me ,,next day they did , I thought I did well back then at that sales price, but who new they would climb to the crazy prices we see these days ... Coastr Posted 11May, 2021 Report Share Posted 11May, 2021 Your Celica is a carbon copy of mine. Except mine was JDM Gt and I stupidly sold it for $2500 in not running condition. JDM wasn’t even a word back then and people laughed at the jap compliance and interior tags. 😭. They go for silly money these days, though some rough projects are still around. You need to engine swap them to get anything decent.
Russ Posted 11May, 2021 Report Share Posted 11May, 2021 some questionable choices here - vinyl roof, performance challenger Bathurst globe copies, a Weber Progressive mounted sideways (so sometimes cylinder 6 got enough fuel) but it was fun bought this cheap at an auction, had a lot of fun (and spent a lot on fuel) tomo, Troubleshooter and Jason A
LeeM Posted 11May, 2021 Report Share Posted 11May, 2021 Struggling to find any old photo albums, yet found some dodgy pics of my '55 Chev. Ex Australian government car that had bugger all rust, blue flame 6 cylinder with 3 on the tree. I bought it from some dodgy bloke in Murray Bridge on a rainy night for $3500 (dad thought I was mad), and drove it home in the pissing rain through the Adelaide hills with vacuum wipers that stopped when I touched the brakes, very dim headlights, bald cross ply tyres and drum brakes that pulled badly to one side, and a lot of prayers that I wouldn't die before I got home. I can honestly say I've never been more scared in my life whilst driving a car than I was that night. I was packing 💩 The following day showed dad I wasn't overly mad buying it, as it turned out to be a very straight and clean car, except for the leaking exhaust that mad me quite sick until I found the problem a few days later. I drove it for a few months as a daily, and I had so many offers to buy it, I finally got bored with and sold it for $10k which I felt I'd won the lottery. I was told the guy who bought it fitted a V8 and painted it yellow with a front flame job which was disappointing, as it was a very original car wilson59, tomo, Jason A and 2 others
Jason A Posted 12May, 2021 Author Report Share Posted 12May, 2021 Ok my next instalment, log booked Porsche Cup car from late 90’s - with number plates 1070kg wet weight, rear tyres 315mm. Was pretty wide back in the day. Pirelli were the only ones I could get the tires from back in the day @ 315mm - they were nearly $2K per tire, Raven, sjm, Shedpest and 5 others
