carl888 Posted 15August, 2021 Report Share Posted 15August, 2021 No one knows the car better than the manufacturer and I think that's that's a good place to start. I start with the owners manual, then progress to the workshop manual, parts book and finally any factory updates, technical training documents/specifications and recalls. Once you've digested that it's a sold foundation for understanding the vehicle. Sometimes anecdotes, stories and procedures that maybe incorrect (but well meaning) are digested as gospel. We are all lucky that Porsche provide not only PET (Spare parts books) available for download: https://www.porsche.com/australia/accessoriesandservice/classic/genuineparts/originalpartscatalogue/ But you can walk into any Porsche dealer and purchases all the workshop manuals, technical specification books, updates and recalls over the counter. Usually for a lot less that what eBay sellers ask for used ones. 18 hours ago, LeeM said: Ah my bad, I read the original post incorrectly...or I just can't read 🙄 Or the OP didn't know

Merv Posted 15August, 2021 Report Share Posted 15August, 2021 I suspect that old days are long gone when you could order what you wanted when purchasing a Porsche. I have a few of the original Hamilton's documents that clearly show that owners could order new cars in the spec that they wanted, regardless of the standard model features and the options list available (even motor swaps to a higher power variant) and the factory altered the Kardex accordingly. You just had to pay for it. 😀

rminc Posted 17September, 2021 Report Share Posted 17September, 2021 Great video. There isn't too many G50 coupes floating around. I have been checking carsales regularly over the last 5 years and I haven't seen too many. Good to see a few still floating around. Nice photos! Saw this on Facebook the other day. I'm guessing it's aus delivered (has the antenna on the front driver's guard). Either gray or granite green. Also another one from Facebook (silver 88') turned into an argument as to whether the door, or rear quarter has been painted. There's a few floating around. Mike-S Posted 12July, 2022 Report Share Posted 12July, 2022 So, with the values of these all over the show, what’s the collective view on a value for the 87 Targa in silver with 135k on the clock? 4 owners from new, stored in a warehouse from about 1995-2015 before being fully recommissioned, used and enjoyed since then. Very much a driver car and the better for it (ie, plenty of stonechips on the front), but well maintained. SSI’s, all new Bilsteins, 7’s & 8’s (genuine), roof redone a few years back and a complete AC rebuild 2 years ago by Steve Varasso (which means that it works). Just an idea at the moment…. Australian delivered? Matching numbers? Not many G50s coupes/targas come on to the market for comparison.

Last coupe that I know of sold, was a marine blue one on chrometemple auction site. I think it had over 200,000kms and was around $240-$260k from memory. That was a while ago, so not sure where the market is at now. Could get $200k. I don't think you'd get less than $180k.

Yes and yes. The comparison thing is the ‘problem’ so to speak, I’ve not seen an Oz delivered G50 Targa sold for years. Given that from the info I got from Porsche Australia a few years ago that mine was potentially the only Targa sold in 1987, that would be why! Shannon’s had an 85 Targa in the last auction, plenty more k’s but still Oz delivered and matching numbers, went for about $130k with fees if I recall correctly. LeeM Posted 13July, 2022 Report Share Posted 13July, 2022 Personally, I'd say $150ish Mike. Yet being as it's rareish, maybe ask a stupid number and get lowballed to see where buyers are at, or give Richmonds, Autohaus etc a call Mike-S

Market has obviously softened, but if someone wants the G50 and Aus delivered, the choice isn’t exactly thick on the ground. LeeM
LeeM Posted 13July, 2022 Report Share Posted 13July, 2022 True they're a rarer bird @Mike-S, though I think it's more the later water cooled cars are what's softened. Air cooled you can still name your price (within reason) and get some interest if it's not ludicrously priced. I only spoke to Shannons on Monday, and they had no problems with upping mine to $100k sight unseen (was 80k ). Maybe start at 20-25% over insured value with all the "Very rare car/Not many in Australia/I know what I have" blurb in an ad and see how ya go. The market will tell you pretty quickly Yeatesy and Mike-S
Mike-S Posted 13July, 2022 Report Share Posted 13July, 2022 If I do sell it @LeeM there will be a set of 7&8 Minilites up for grabs as well 😉 In fact to be honest I should just list them anyway as I’m unlikely to put them back on the car, they’re just gathering dust in their boxes in the shed. Along with the original 6&7” Fuchs…

I agree, I’ve increased the agreed value of mine with Shannon’s twice since buying it in January. I rang them a couple of weeks ago and told them what I wanted to increase it to, they emailed me a list of photos they required and replied to my email the next day with “fantastic car, agreed value increased as requested”. Dalai Posted 13July, 2022 Report Share Posted 13July, 2022 I've been in contact with Shannon's reasonably regularly lately as been adding vehicles and whilst on the phone discussed values for all the vehicles. Agreed values all upped but they have not been keen to go beyond $150K with my 84 Carrera (Australian delivered coupe ~197,000 km). Obviously don't know what cars are actually selling for, but similar cars listed online are all north of this! Yeatesy and FAP911

The bloke at Shannons the other day said they usually do keep a track of values and sale prices. I called them about them not being able to deduct my monthly payment (my bank at fault there), yet it was actually him saying mine was probably underinsured with their escalating values, and would I like to up it. I suggested $100k and he was "Yep, no worries" I understand what you're saying that it's probably still underinsured, yet my backdate isn't in mint condition or original, yet I think it's now insured for what it would probably sell for. Well, I've actually been offered more than that, but I'm happy with it being insured for $100k Yeatesy and Dalai

I have an '85 coupe and an 88' G50 coupe. 180kms on G50 and 195kms on the '85. G50 is insured for $190k and they didn't question it. I felt like I could probably have asked for a higher amount. The '85 is insured for $140k and it took me alot of time and effort on the phone to get there. When I questioned it, they basically said they're aware of the premium for the later model and they can't change it. Pretty much spot on to what I think I'd get now anyway. Might try $150-160k and $210k in a few months when I'm due. See how we go. Edit: I'm with Shannon's too. Dalai and Yeatesy 1
