Help vote for Wing

So the brown car is getting be-winged and there are two candidates.  See which one you like and have your say.  Car is 81 911 SC in Platinum Metallic.

Both wings are wrong color so dodgy photoshop used to get the color close to correct.

Option 1 - FG replica early carrera wing (grill not yet fitted)

Option 2 : Genuine 84-89 Carrera Wing

Is one of the ones above this one? (As this has my vote)

The one above is a “Tea Tray” ..

The second option is the factory correct “Whale Tail” ..

Whale Tail has my vote! .. 😀

No this is a tea tray as fitted to turbos from 78-93.  The black car pictured is a turbo.  Neither of the two tails I posted come from a turbo.  The first was fitted to Carreras from about 75-77, then the special edition weissach in 80/81 (a USA only special edition). Ironically the weissach cars were mostly platinum metallic (like this car). The 2nd tail is a Carrera tail as an option on 84-89 narrow bodied cars and the special edition RS America in 93-94.

The early Carrera tails look very similar to the 75-77 turbo cars except the turbo has a second grill in it.

’whaletail’ is a bit of a wide term but strictly speaking means a 75-80 wing, which is the first option.  In Porsche circles people tend to differentiate each wing with a different name - duck tail, early turbo, early Carrera, tea tray, Carrera, gt2, gt3 etc etc.

Some people don’t like tea tray tails on narrow body cars- but it was what you got if you ordered the spoiler option with an SC.  It’s what my white car has as a factory fit.

Phil,

I've gotta agree too. Us 3.2 owners don't do it on a whim!

If the car was a jelly bean colour, I would have said 1, especially if was modded

Actually it probably looks great without a wing.

That alone makes option 1 a clear winner

here is a platinum weissach car.  Oddly this one has euro rear bumpers, which being a USA special edition means they are a retrofit.

Im not a fan of color matched wheels but otherwise love the look of these cars.

It has spent the first 40 years of its life unwinged. Owner wants a wing!

Actually, you've won me over with this photo, even the colour matched wheels.

I can hear it now, PFA'er referring to your "Platinum weissach tribute car"!

RSR wing is bigger again, I think the lack of secondary grill makes it look bigger.  It stops short of the rear bumper like the ones above.

here is an RSR for comparison

That said it is a replica so it might be slightly longer than stock. To me it looks similar to the weissach car.

note : it’s not my car anymore, working through this with the new owner.  I could never pull the trigger on adding a wing which didn’t come with the car.
