Saxon Posted 10August, 2021 Report Share Posted 10August, 2021 Ive been a VW man all my life, till I bought a really nice 67 LHD 912 Then I bought a converted to RHD 912 Then I bought this... Feeling very fortunate to get this car. Never thought I was going to get what I wanted for the money I had to spend Its a Aussie 67 that's been converted to a LWB 2.7on webers. All the hard stuff had been done when I bought it but Ive done a fair bit already to make it my own. Still more work to do but Im loving it Must say I feel 4cyl 912s are extremely undervalued... they are such a great everyday car to drive and fun in the hills. The 6 sounds and goes better, but much harder to live with in traffic. Still, its a weekend driver and Im super happy with it Ill continue to post my progress And I still feel like a VW man...... edgy, Troubleshooter, Rod C and 14 others

Merv Posted 12August, 2021 Report Share Posted 12August, 2021 The SWBs are such pretty cars. Are you thinking about getting rid of the later model front spoiler?
Saxon Posted 13August, 2021 Author Report Share Posted 13August, 2021 I put the s spoiler on... Ideally Id have a SWB Aussie delivered 911s, but I don't have that money... Its a 67 with a long wheelbase conversion so impossible to make it look like a SWB car The colour is period 70s not 60s too, so I've gone with my next favourite look.... a 70 911s. It came with gold 911s badging already Im making the most of what I have and Im not complaining....finding an Aussie delivery 60s Porsche at reasonable coin is difficult esp in todays market The colour is tangerine. Not sure if its a porsche colour...I had paint matched and it came back as vermillion fire ( of Ford 351 GT fame Im assuming) OG its brown so if there ever was a car that should be called Jaffa...... True. If it has already had a LWB 'conversion', 6 cylinder installed and the later spoiler added, the forward dating is not a biggie. As they say,' it's your car', and it's what you like to drive. The colour looks great too.
Saxon Posted 31August, 2021 Author Report Share Posted 31August, 2021 After taking my new car to a porsche specialist Ive been advised that my motor has signs of pulled head studs and subsequent leakage..... I was super disappointed and quotes for engine rebuilds were lengthy and crazy money So, behold, as luck would have it, I found a new motor. Built by a highly recommended builder in QLD. 2.7RS spec on PMOs. To be installed next week Sold my old motor....too cheap obviously....had about 7 in the queue.... Saxon Posted 16October, 2021 Author Report Share Posted 16October, 2021 I decided to get a completely rebuilt gearbox at the same time....I went for a magnesium case 915 to keep it period correct with the motor. Slightly better ratios too which make it drive around town a bit better (7:31 from 8:31 or something like that) So this year my car has new RS spec brakes, motor and gearbox. Decided to get my speedo refurbished and re-wound to coincide with the new mechanicals Big thanks to Brett at flat6 Motorsport in QLD. I sent the car uo to him and he did a fantastic job, was great to work with. The new motor and gearbox run fantastic, keeping the revs under 4k for the first 2000ks as advised.....that will take some time in a weekender car Next on the list are some smaller items Period correct 380mm momo New black German square weave carpet New rear seats New brushed silver dash and Blaupunkt radio Replace suspension bushings back to factory rubber GTP911 and micknine01

Merv Posted 17October, 2021 Report Share Posted 17October, 2021 Always a good idea to use rubber in the suspension bushings on these cars to avoid harshness and noise. The 'factory' rubber is usually from Prekom these days and very good quality (you can buy direct from Prekom at a substantially cheaper rate) Gavn
