Gnrnr Posted 14August, 2021 Report Share Posted 14August, 2021 I jumped in the car last week and noticed a bright yellow lit squiggly patch on the lower right hand side of the centre screen. Has anyone seen this before? Getting in the car again today and it has become worse.

Graeme Posted 14August, 2021 Report Share Posted 14August, 2021 Might be some clues in this thread https://rennlist.com/forums/boxster-and-boxster-s-986-forum/736859-instrument-cluster-lcd-issue.html

Gnrnr Posted 18August, 2021 Author Report Share Posted 18August, 2021 Moved a long way in a week. Not happening while driving just from sitting there idle. Troubleshooter
Troubleshooter Posted 18August, 2021 Report Share Posted 18August, 2021 What a pain, niggly problem and not easily remedied I guess, and growing. Will be interested to know the fix....
Gnrnr Posted 18August, 2021 Author Report Share Posted 18August, 2021 yeah. I can live with it (especially at the moment (Flat broke...) as long as I can read the bits I need. I suspect I'll have to keep an eye out for a new centre gauge or something. Might try and pick one up from a wreckers. Gnrnr Posted 27August, 2021 Author Report Share Posted 27August, 2021 Spread further, but it also looks like some areas have "healed" themselves. This is after about a week sitting outside. i might try getting a heater into the car and leave it there for a day or so. I've seen a few suggestions regarding moisture and maybe bumping the temp up to say 40°C for a day or so will help. TwoHeadsTas
LeeM Posted 27August, 2021 Report Share Posted 27August, 2021 Ask Gladys or Dan being as they're knowledgeable. I'm sure they'll say its a virus of some sort Joz, Gnrnr, luzzo and 1 other
Bibbs Posted 9November, 2021 Report Share Posted 9November, 2021 Not sure if it'll help, but I've a spare gauge cluster (I swapped out the glass). I'd have thought a dismantle and LCD swap should fix it. Gnrnr

Merv Posted 9November, 2021 Report Share Posted 9November, 2021 LCD bleed? There are kits to replace them in some P-cars.

The self-healing is interesting. I hope it just buggers off after a while but if not a repair should not be impossible. I've removed the cluster from my 996 which was extremely easy, 987 presumably not too different. There are various places around who will repair cluster faults like this. I used these guys to repair the LCD of the climate module, and also the ABS module in my SAAB:https://injectronics.com.au/ Both were quick, cheap and worked fine for years if I recall. It was many years back but they still appear to be there so probably still doing a good job.
Gnrnr Posted 1December, 2021 Author Report Share Posted 1December, 2021 With the weather warming up it seems to be starting to self heal somewhat. I can live with it for now, but I'll obviously have to fix it should the worst ever happen and I decide to sell it.... For now that is the worst i can think of. Sad thing is looking at the ODO I only got another 3,000km since August on it....
Goon Posted 2December, 2021 Report Share Posted 2December, 2021 I had the same problem when I bought my car with the LCD issue appearing on my climate control unit display. Initially I dismantled the unit and coloured out the bbackside of the LCD display with a permanent marker, which looked okay at a glance, but it looked shoddy. I bought a replacement LCD panel from Partworks.de - Took a while to come out during these Covid-impacted times, but the swap over was quick enough and it looks brand new again. Gnrnr Posted 29December, 2021 Author Report Share Posted 29December, 2021 And now it is fixed all by itself. i left the car parked out in the sun the last few day and the heat has fixed it completely (at least till it gets cold next winter I presume ) sjm, Troubleshooter, tomo and 1 other

Sabotage Posted 11October, 2022 Report Share Posted 11October, 2022 So weird... Did it end up coming back again this Winter just past?
Gnrnr Posted 17October, 2022 Author Report Share Posted 17October, 2022 No it didn't. I was musing just last week that it didn't come back at all this year. Car was stored pretty much the same, though driven a lot less this year so far. Looking at the ODO in the pics I have only done about 15,000km so far this year. Need to lift my game. Sabotage Posted 17October, 2022 Report Share Posted 17October, 2022 Interesting. Hopefully it stays away. If mine ever ends up with the same issue, I'll know the fix! Gnrnr
