Des Posted 15September, 2021 Report Share Posted 15September, 2021 Hi All, Just got my 996 back from Porsche dealer with a quote of nearly $7,000 to fix the motor and rams for the convertible roof which they say has failed. Was wondering if anyone has any experience with this - I'm not inclined to attempt to fix it myself but is there anyone in the Brisbane area that does repairs of this type? I'm used to Porsche pricing but this is staggering for what it is. US forums seem to suggest there are aftermarket options there but can't seem to find anything in Australia. Yep I had a span of prices quoted from $4k for Porsche specialist to replace with refurbished to $7k for PCW. Neither would provide an absolute quote until they had the car apart. I am handy but by no means a mechanic. I did the us forum searches and removed the rear parcel tray and did the hydraulic fluid reservoir top up. Lasted 6 weeks and stopped again. I found a guy in south Sydney who rebuilt rams and had experience with Porsches. I took mine out dropped them off to him and got them back 3 days later and cost me $480 for resealed and primed. put them back in and has worked a treat. Took me all of 40 min to take them out and 90 to reinstall as you have to cycle and fill the reservoir 3 times to refill the hydraulic lines. it’s not that hard and immensely satisfying to save so much on a simple job. Criminal what the dealers are charging. https://www.convertiblecentre.com.au/ I’m sure you could ship them if no one in Brisbane can do it Rod C
slknv Posted 17September, 2021 Report Share Posted 17September, 2021 I should quit my day job and move into fixing 996 roofs if I can charge 4-7k for a couple hours work. Check out my blog on fixing my roof - http://www.dtmtune.com/2020/08/porsche-911-996-and-997-convertible.html
