Peter61 Posted 4October, 2021 Author Report Share Posted 4October, 2021 Hi slknv, Specifically I replaced the rams, reconnected everything, filled the oil reserve up and tried to open the roof but it was making noises as tho it had a lot of air in the system. I then checked the oil reserve and noticed it empty, so I guessed that the rams and lines where empty. I filled the oil tank again, thinking all would be good but alas still no good. The clamshell is closing at a different rate to the roof and the roof is also not closing correctly, the front lock keeps cycling thru, as tho somethings not locking in?? I’ve added a photo of the roof when it’s clashing with the clamshell. Tips Posted 4October, 2021 Report Share Posted 4October, 2021 Not sure how many times you have cycled the roof after installing the rams. The noise sounds like mine with low hydraulic fluid and was very slow. I had to cycle and refill mine 3 times after reinstalling. It’s a fidgety job as you have to keep pulling it apart to refill and then refit and cycle the roof 1-2 times after each reservoir top up. I didn’t have the clash issue. When refilling the hydraulic fluid, it does take 3-4 goes at topping up the reservoir to get it all through the lines and cylinders as mentioned above. You may need to lift the roof manually and hold it up while you check and keep topping up the reservoir to maximum. If there's not enough fluid in the system, it won't move the roof quick enough to avoid it hitting the clamshell. Also, have you made sure the pin engaging the potentiometer on the left cylinder is engaged properly? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Peter61 Posted 9October, 2021 Author Report Share Posted 9October, 2021 (edited) Slknv, I pulled everything out again today and reinstalled with the potentiometer connected this time🙄🤷🏼♂️ Thanks for that info, as a general comment the roof is better but not 100%.The issue now is the front locking mechanism doesn’t engage correctly and tries to cycle thru, I can hear some whirring noises from the rear. The other minor issue is the right flap doesn’t come up in the first try, the roof goes into fault, I then push to open again and it slowly sets into place and the clamshell closes correctly. As I said, it’s at least working better. Now to sort the last couple of minor issues, the flap and the locking mechanism. Any further thoughts would be greatly appreciated. slknv Posted 11October, 2021 Report Share Posted 11October, 2021 Good to hear the potentiometer is now reconnected, that'll go some way to fixing the issue as it dictates the operation of many other parts of the roof mechanism The flaps not turning is a common fault. You may need to grab a long allen key and turn the hex nut located in the little circular flap where the hardtop inserts to, just a half or full turn, in order to reset it a little. There's also a microswitch thingy in the side flap that sometimes needs to be bent a tiny bit. Also lubricate the vertical screw thing with some silicone spray. The front locking mechanism - the hook in the roof? You may want to remove the little plastic flap that covers the hook, and check the gearing mechanism in it to make sure it's not stripped first before looking for other issues Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
