Sov Posted 3January, 2022 Report Share Posted 3January, 2022 Thinking about picking up one of these to scratch my tuner itch. Seeing some impressive horsepower figures coming out of the US. Anyone have one of these? Really interested to hear your thoughts on them.
Dalai Posted 3January, 2022 Report Share Posted 3January, 2022 Would have to go with the MKIV for the true tuner experience surely? Shop where I am getting my SW20 MR2 engine rebuilt is a Supra specialist with a number of big HP cars. Haven't seen an A90 there yet but expect to see them soon. Toyota's are definitely tunable cars for big HP numbers. Even my 4 cylinder MR2 build should easily handle 700+ RWHP, though currently aiming for around the 400 RWHP mark as I still want it to be streetable. But by using a stronger later model block, cams and forged internals including Stroker pistons I have the internal mods in place in case I change my mind. 😉 Already have a bigger fuel pump fitted and going flex fuel amongst other mods. Main limitation will be the turbo, as I only had it highflowed with Garrett GTX3076 rather than bolting on a bigger hairdryer.
Yeatesy Posted 3January, 2022 Report Share Posted 3January, 2022 I work for a Toyota dealership and had one in order well before they came out, we got our demo and I drove it for the weekend. There’s just way to much BMW in the car for me, they are quick but I found it very uninspiring to drive so I cancelled my order and bought a Cayman S which was the polar opposite, I couldn’t stop smiling even on my way to get petrol. I had heard that there were a few on the shelf and was considering buying one when I was struggling to get my box rebuilt, as many internals are no longer available and few shops want to touch them. Given this I am considering buying a box as a spare in case I destroy my current one. Yeatesy
HWY Posted 3January, 2022 Report Share Posted 3January, 2022 Get a GR Yaris. Tune away. Yeatesy
Carrera28 Posted 3January, 2022 Report Share Posted 3January, 2022 Isn't Toyota tuneability mainly irrelevant since the J29 Supra has a BMW motor and chassis?

Coastr Posted 3January, 2022 Report Share Posted 3January, 2022 Bmw motors are very tuneable. Not sure about the reliable part. Yeatesy and HWY
Zelrik911 Posted 4January, 2022 Report Share Posted 4January, 2022 What do people think about the new Nissan "Z" model? 400hp twin turbo which is a proven motor made in Japan. Lots of my friends had very good 240/260 z ownership experiences. Looks prettier than a Godzilla, too.

Apparently it’s not all new, the underpinnings are 370z. Does look pretty cool though 😎

wilson59 Posted 31March, 2022 Report Share Posted 31March, 2022 Brad Harris I guy I raced motorbikes with has spent a lot of time developing a Supra. We spoke about it at the Adelaide Rally was really impressive Brad said the standard platform was awesome to work with https://www.enhancedautomotive.com.au/toyotasupraa90

WGA Posted 31March, 2022 Report Share Posted 31March, 2022 As a counterpoint, a number of teams have ditched the Supra in Europe due to the inherent bump steer which they are finding impossible to dial out without major suspension changes. Indeed, Apex at the ring got rid of theirs because of this problem. They actually found the car dangerous on the ring when pushed.
