Arne Krix Posted 16January, 2022 Report Share Posted 16January, 2022 Need some help and expertise please: I saw an old friend yesterday and owns a ‘70 ‘s Ferrari, 4 seater Grandtourer type of a thing. ( I know very little about Ferraris. )This thing is on a 3 speed auto , beautiful to look at , he has done about 3000km over the last 20+ years. The car is maintained locally by a small garage , the guy apparently knows about Ferrari. Talking to my friend , one thing became apparent : the mechanic is shit and rips him off in a big way . I mean in a BIG way. It is so shocking , I did not say too much to the owner . Does anybody know of places in Melbourne that deal with vintage cars in generell and also are competent on older Ferraris? Also keen to find sources for parts , groups ,?etc.?Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers Arne. Ps: I already gave him all the jokes.

Joz Posted 17January, 2022 Report Share Posted 17January, 2022 Many many years ago I used these guys, though doubt it’s the same ownership. https://www.google.com.au/search?q=the+italian+job+garage&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-au&client=safari#lkt=LocalPoiPhotos&trex=m_t:lcl_akp,rc_f:nav,rc_ludocids:2407292972190830842,rc_q:The%20Italian%20Job%20Automotive,ru_q:The%20Italian%20Job%20Automotive,trex_id:kx0xA Arne Krix
sleazius Posted 17January, 2022 Report Share Posted 17January, 2022 I'm sure there are cheaper ways to do it, but its not like they're known for their cheap servicing. Its almost like servicing was a design afterthought until the 90s. I love watching Harry Metcalfe flippantly quote 20 or 30k pounds for an engine out as cheap! I spose anything is cheap when you compare it to the cost of servicing a Zonda (which he also owned at one point). Arne Krix

That sounds far more like a parts issue than anything else. No doubt with a fair amount of sting built in. Arne Krix

Hi @Arne Krix This is a great place for your friend: http://www.maranellopursang.com/ They specialise in older performance cars, and particularly older Ferrari's. Bruno is my contact there (part owner), very humble and will always make an effort to resolve problems with experience rather than just buy new parts. garypgt3 Posted 17January, 2022 Report Share Posted 17January, 2022 Sounds like your friend has Ferrari 400 with the GM auto. I own a 308gtsi and have regularly used (from 2005) Black Stallion Motors located in Pilgrim Court Ringwood. Tim the owner is really good with the older Ferraris cars and dabbles in other odd types. Not used his services for a few years as Covid in Melbourne has restricted the use of the car but worth a visit to discuss your issues. Cheers.
