Looking at purchasing a 79 928 from a friend based in Armidale NSW and looking for a 928 specialist to do a pre purchase inspection in the region.

Will be bringing the car to SA so looking for a decent local mechanic here too.

Any suggestions appreciated.

thanks.

James,

Is the subject vehicle light blue and located at Uralla?

Hi Peter, @Peter M It is highly probable that it maybe that car. Do you know anything about it?

Buiks here in Adelaide look after my 928 and so far it's been in good hands.

Also used to look after my 930 and never had any complaints.

Thanks @3legs

James,

You will be hard pressed to find someone to do a Porsche specific PPI in these parts.  At best you could ask a local mechanic like Michael at David Carey Automotive to check off a list of 928 specific questions that you have prepared beforehand.  He could also then do an overall review of generic items such as electrics, shocks etc.

I've seen the car a number of times at the local car's n' coffee gathering but never got to completely befriend the owner as he passed away unexpectedly about 18 months ago.  Consequently his partner has advertised the vehicle for sale.  The owner, being an ex-Qantas aircraft engineer always gave the impression he was on top of the maintenance and it wanted for nothing.  I know it's been serviced by Armidale's other 928 owner more recently for Sally.

If the car interests your friend, I would suggest they fly up, test drive, make an offer and then drive it home.

@Peter M

Thanks Peter, Sally is a family friend and has sent through a stack of info on what Steve had done - seems like it is pretty well sorted but keen to make sure that its not a money pit (I know its a 40 old car so its all relative!) It looks like it has been well looked after, and is a good base to bring it back to original condition.  Not looking for a show car but something we can drive now and bring back to its 1979 glory.
