Per the thread title - SMT ideas for the Sydney area.

This is what I was thinking for a run in a few weeks time:

I scouted Mulgoa to Thirlmere last weekend and the road conditions were per usual - good in parts, shit in others. Nothing you wouldn't fang your P-car down though.

All looks pretty good @sleazius Macquarie pass although scenic, is usually frustrating… there’s some nice roads out to Jamberoo if you don’t mind a little extra distance! @GC9911  can probably better consult on that and maybe a brunch/lunch stop?

Good idea K, but at the moment the run down to Jamberoo is also sketchy, lots more traffic (& trucks 🥶🥶🥶) than usual due to not being able to go through Kangaroo Valley up Barrengarry Mtn to the Southern highlands.

Could always do this and loop around for brunch / lunch in Moss Vale to avoid Macquarie Pass plus quick exit to Hume Highway for people to blast back into town:

I can't check all the roads this weekend as the wife is away, but was planning on doing the full run to check it out on the long weekend.

I don't mind the distance at all - the further the better for me, but I'm aware people generally prefer to be back in time for Sunday arvo. I did some great roads down around Cooma in December that I wouldn't mind revisiting but that'd be an overnight dealio.

The big issue with the south at the moment is road conditions, which is why I want to scout out the entire run before I put it up as a definite. I was originally going to do this exact run finishing at Cambewarra Lookout - then head into Berry for brunch / lunch, but the roads are flogged down there. Half of Kangaroo Valley and surrounds are washed out.

I like that route actually ^^ And ending in Moss Vale is good option for those whom either want to return home on the highway or great for lunch spots since there's plenty of points of interest around there (Moss Vale, Bowral, Berrima etc)

The big issue with the south at the moment is road conditions, which is why I want to scout out the entire run before I put it up as a definite. Great pub & cafe at Burrawang, if you want to go another 15min from Bowral, just before Robertson.

I agree, some roads around there a month ago i was driving were bad. I find using Waze though that most of the bad potholes have been marked by the community, so use Waze.

I'm up for doing this drive though, I haven't done some of these roads before, let me know when your going.

Worth a look is turn left at Glennquarry to Kangaloon, East Kangaloon then back into Robertson OR left at a little earlier at Tourist Rd, comes out a the top of Mqr pass then back to Robertson.

Tourist Rd is not a bad one for around here and is usually not crazy with traffic. I could be in for that run or at least some of it depending on the date. As mentioned Burrawang Pub is not a bad spot for lunch with heaps of parking usually on the street, or otherwise Briars in between Bowral and Moss Vale has a nice big car park.

Keen to join if the date lines up.  Like the idea of  Tourist Rd & Burrawang pub.  Some nice narrow road cruising out of Burrawang pub heading back towards Robertson too...can be entertaining.

Monday morning. Thinking the roads will be at their quietest then. The police presence since Friday has been ridiculous up here. It may make doing the run painful in certain spots (Wallacia to Taylor's Rd in Silverdale especially as it is a 60 zone the whole way - 8km).

I'll be kicking off just after dawn, my home town is a deer and kangaroo festival so better to avoid that if possible.

If anyone wants to meet or do parts of it let me know!
