Pagey Posted 28December, 2022 Report Share Posted 28December, 2022 Installed the Function First shifter kit. Feels tighter so we will see
mrm Posted 19February Report Share Posted 19February How did you go with the shifter kit? Was it worth the effort and does it feel significantly better. Was the full shift kit required or could you have achieved the same outcome just by replacing front and rear bushes?
MFX Posted 19February Report Share Posted 19February I put it in my 996 and it was a huge upgrade. Before it felt rubbery and very uninspiring, it really firmed it up. The issue is the factory front and rear bushes are plastic where the function first (and many of the other options) are aluminium replacements, which firm up the whole thing. Goon Posted 19February Report Share Posted 19February I am currently tossing up between the function first bits and a GT3 shifter which also has some of the bearings upgraded to metal. Leaning towards the whole GT3 shifter which is slightly shorter, but not a defining factor for myself.
mrm Posted 19February Report Share Posted 19February Thanks Jeff I saw your YouTube video which was great. Was asking if the full kit ~$300 was worth the extra money over just replacing the front and rear bushes which are around $80. Any thoughts on full rebuild v partial? GT3 version still has a plastic yoke so there will be more play. And those metal bearings will still wear after a relatively short period. My FF kit has been going strong since 2018 and is still as tight as the day I fitted it. I personally don’t like the shorter throw and feel a solid 996 shift is about right, but that’s purely personally preference. Carrera28 Posted 20February Report Share Posted 20February I have the Numeric racing shifter and cannot speak highly enough of it and it is one of the best upgrades I have made to my 996. Every part is metal, it is beautifully engineered and fits perfectly under centre console requiring no cutting or modifications to 987/987, 996/997. There are three different positions so you can adjust how long or short you would like the throw to be tomo and LeeM
