Philbee Posted 2June Report Share Posted 2June I have a tech question I’m thinking of getting a Wevo short shifter for my g50 (not 915) geared 911. It’s the Psj I’m writing about, the additional coupler that for a g50, some say, makes a big difference. On pelican & sierra, the PSJ looks a little different and the pelican one is about $100 Aus more. So, do I need the more expensive one? It looks like it has a T piece with 2 bolts on the ends… the other one, on ‘sierra madre’ doesn’t. if in doubt, I’ll probably just get the pelican more $$ one…. Unless someone can tell me I’m wasting my money… philbee
Peter M Posted 3June Report Share Posted 3June The top one with the two short bolts is the one that suits G50's. I honestly don't think there is any value in changing the stock coupler if it is in good condition. If the rubbers are failing, just replace them for a fraction of the cost of a WEVO unit. JP West do a stiffer coupler washer too. Not sure why though. (Actually have one somewhere that was never fitted!) The attached photos show how Wevo have made something simple and trouble free, complicated and expensive. I suspect the somewhat justifiable success they had with their 915 couplers made them think they could make money from G50 owners too. If your G50 doesn't shift perfectly, I suggest you look elsewhere for the solution as it is unlikely to be the coupler. Philbee Posted 3June Author Report Share Posted 3June Nothing wrong with what I have actually, I just like the idea of a tighter shift and a shorter throw. Even though $$$ I thought getting both shifter & coupler would satify both objectives. I am also sceptical of wevo as per your point of continuing their success from 915 to g50 kit… just a bit of marketing?… but that’s what I’m trying to suss out as well. The shifter kit surely reduces the travel and the coupler helps the tightness…. But as you say just replacing the washers, bushes is all that’s needed maybe, cheaper than replacing the coupler… I watched a YouTube today where the dude had replaced the coupler bushes only…. Made sense.

Changing the coupler won't achieve either of those objectives. Philbee
Philbee Posted 4June Author Report Share Posted 4June Oh really… the pelican forum seems to say otherwise but you know, it’s full of Americans! 😅 so what does updating the coupler do then?

For G50 owners, I just think it lightens their wallets so the car feels faster! 😁 Philbee, micknine01, Shedpest and 2 others 1
OZ930 Posted 4June Report Share Posted 4June Coupler (or coupling) is just a fancy name for a joiner or connector. The Wevo shift coupler replaces the “rubber” block with a small universal hidden under a rubber sleeve, which has the potential to transfer noise to the cabin and is unserviceable other than a total replacement. This is the “racing” PSJ but essentially the same. Cheaper to replace the rubber block (and bolts) if it is worn, soft or cracked, which could potentially give you some slop in the gearshift. wilburforce Posted 6June Report Share Posted 6June The SMC one is for a 915, and the pelican one for a G50. Nick upgraded mine (from memory not a wevo branded one but something else) at the same time I did the Wevo on my black car as the old one was flogged. I have heard anecdotally that it improves the directness of the shifts (which is more important with a wevo) - but not sure as mine were done at the same time. Or do as @OBRUT says and upgrade to a 915... OBRUT
