nytelfer Posted 14June Report Share Posted 14June Interested to understand if anyone with a 981 Boxster or Cayman (or indeed a 991.1 911) has been able to get the speed limit to show in the multi-function display or is this feature not available in Australia? I have speed limit checked (or ticked) under PCM display in the multi-function screen as per below but the speed limit does not show on the screen. Would welcome suggestions from anyone who has successfully activated this feature. Thanks!
MFX Posted 14June Report Share Posted 14June I haven't actually checked to see if the box is ticked, but my Macan with PCM 3.1 does show the speed limit in the bottom left corner of that screen. It is not the most accurate thing, and now I know that it s optional I will go in tomorrow and turn it off

I have a PIWIS system but I’m not sure we have the right hardware to activate it on my 981 although it was an factory option at the time (BTW. via coding I was able to activate it on another brand although it was turned off in Australia supposedly because it wasn’t 100% accurate). My "other" car is a 2023 MU-X (hate the f'n thing!!!) and it picks up the "40" sign on the back of buses through the camera and starts bonging and beeping away if you're behind one!!!! Hope the Porsche system would be better than this!!! Miffy
nytelfer Posted 15June Author Report Share Posted 15June Appreciate the replies - I have now found the speed limit indicator described in a global Cayman brochure dtd 03/2014 as follows: “The optional speed limit indicator informs you about speed limits, overtaking restrictions and when they are lifted, as recorded by a camera near the rear-view mirror. The information is displayed on the colour screen in the instrument cluster or the optional Porsche Communication Management (PCM). If a traffic is not identified, for example in heavy rain or when it is dark, the speed limit stored in the navigation module will be automatically displayed. The advantage for you is that you can give your full concentration to the traffic”. The accompanying Options Price List brochure that is specific to Australian market vehicles (i.e. prices in $AUD) does not list it as an option so appears the system was not offered locally. If that is the case, it seems curious it appears in the multi function display as per the above photo! Intuitively, cars fitted with optional automatically dimming interior & exterior mirrors with rain sensor would have the camera near the rear view mirror so maybe it can be activated? Will ask the question at the next service!

I find it annoying as it covers up what ever info is on that part of the screen. I have Carplay on mine and I am always running Waze anyway which already has he speed limit displayed. Interesting that it reads street signs though. I always assumed it used the crappy factory GPS which I thought explaned why it regularly shows the incorrect speed limit?
