Minke Posted 28September Report Share Posted 28September Hi All, I've no history on gearbox oil for my 996.2 so I'm looking to replace it so I know where I'm at The question is - what are people using? Im flipping between Redline, Ravenol or Driven gear oils (all meeting Porsche requirements supposedly) The gearbox is fine when hot... it's only when first started second gear needs not be rushed. Would like to make that a better experience. Happy to hear thoughts

After a few minutes of driving which depends on the ambient temperature, it shifts smoothly. I do not force shifts and simply use very light pressure on the shifter. I use Mobil 1 LS. I've read about the various lubes used on forums and I wonder if it really makes a difference.
911CSR Posted 30September Report Share Posted 30September I've used Amsoil for gearbox and diffs in my cars fore a while now and its never let us down. Even in the race cars its been by far the best of thoese we tried. Agree with @IXLR8, my old 996 turbo manual in HKG was the same, needed a while to warm up before everything worked as it should. Minke Posted 30September Author Report Share Posted 30September separately to this - does anyone know if 996.2 C2s came with LSD or not? (i.e factory fitted rather than optioned..) It's not overly clear when you're looking at the options list. M219 - Differential M220 - Diff with 40% LSD Neither option codes appear in my options list documentation for the car... so I have nothing

Although we have never used it, a very large independent specialist near us used Redline for a few years and reported a fantastic improvement in shifting, unfortunately they also experienced a lot of wear within the next year or so in the gearboxes it was in, mainly in the area of differential bearings and crown wheel and pinion. Maybe best not to go with that one 16 hours ago, Minke said: separately to this - does anyone know if 996.2 C2s came with LSD or not? (i.e factory fitted rather than optioned..) Maybe best not to go with that one only ever an option. Thank you for the information. I'm hoping the gearbox is 'ok' for a while yet. Will throw fresh oil and go from there. I shudder to think the $ to refresh a box.
