Thommo66 Posted 26November Report Share Posted 26November My '97 993 ignition will not crank over at all now. The battery had been showing signs of decline with having to use the trickle charger more often between periods where it had not been driven for a month. I get nothing now when I turn the key in the ignition. Not sure if the battery is finally just dead or its' something else. One option is to simply call my Porsche service centre but I imagine that the next thing I know they may want to suggest getting it towed to them $$$ etc. Clearly they would alway recommend an OEM replacement battery if this is the root cause issue with the car not starting. Do you have any recommendations on other options like a specific non-OEM model replacement option from the likes of SupercheapAuto ? Any helpful recommendations welcome. cheers

Century Ultra Hi Performance Car Battery DIN65LHX when I entered the specifics about my car make/model/version etc. $250 (30% off sale). Obvious question in my mind is whether this is good enough and also would this have any impact on perception of how well it's been looked if I choose to sell it down the track. Maybe a stupid question but it is a Porsche and we are fickle bastards when it comes to practicality and perception of quality. 🙂
WB997.2GTS Posted 26November Report Share Posted 26November Its only a battery, and only the Porsche purest’s who throw up their arms in disgust for not having a Porsche (re-stickered) battery. Thommo66
JB911 Posted 26November Report Share Posted 26November If it gets rarely driven, and isn't on a trickle/maintenance charger during storage, it's highly likely the battery is dead. If the battery is more than 4 or 5 years old, it was probably close to dying of old age anyway. Replace with any good brand (such as Supercharge or Century) with the right design/specs. The brand of battery would be one of the last details I would look at if I was buying a used car, and I'm pretty fussy 😉 Thommo66
Thommo66 Posted 26November Author Report Share Posted 26November Thanks for the responses and guidance guys. The car gets driven at least once a month if not more often. Must have been due anyway as suggested. I will grab one as suggested and fit it. I assume it's relatively straight forward to do it yourself. No doubt there is a youtube out there showing how to do this on the 993.
