Worth now? Worth after? Personally I have no idea. Scroll through all the pics to get an idea of the warts and blemishes.
Russ Posted 6July, 2013 Report Share Posted 6July, 2013 it's really just another longhood that has a 'famous' (in Porsche circles) owner. all I can say with all those images, it's good to know everything about the car
wasserkuhl Posted 6July, 2013 Report Share Posted 6July, 2013 The car, if restored correctly would be worth in excess of 130kUSD. It would need a lot of time and money to get it back to as new. If it was restored correctly it may well exceed 150k at an auction house. Lovely car. There aren't many of them around anymore, this early in particular. That's what I thought, not that he is shipping to Oz , but if he was , say 75k asking price + shipping and handling etc at least 5-10k , add my cheap 50k rehab estimate and you are at over 130k...then to find a buyer in Oz for a LHD car. Maybe not a great investment , but it would be a nice car for a collection. Done well , it would appreciate in the course of time. As they say , they stopped making them quite a few years ago. Something tells me when it came time to sell you could find an international buyer who is more than happy to put down 10k for shipping. His advert is a great read, I really wish everyone sold their cars like that. I know the car is rare but is it really worth 80K (and looking like its going up even more) or is it a case of the owners celebrity driving the price? I'm no expert on early 911's but i think this is a good basis for a restorer. And you are right about the MW factor. Add a famous (?) name to any item and watch it go. This car seems to be pretty much as he bought it except for replacing brakes and exhaust just to get it running. There's nothing on this one that makes it uniquely Magnus. Harvs11 Posted 9July, 2013 Report Share Posted 9July, 2013 The auction has restarted ended, likely do to a dud bidder.. Cute use of the build number as the starting price.
LeeM Posted 22July, 2013 Report Share Posted 22July, 2013 A non numbers matching car, floor pan 'patched' and not replaced and needs a lot of work to get it concourse? Yeah, it's a cool car, no question about that, but an investment as a left hooker in Oz? I personally would think not
D-banger Posted 22July, 2013 Report Share Posted 22July, 2013 For investment grade cars I always wondered whether a LHD would be better, being that the potential buyer market would be much bigger (than the RHD world) when you one day go to sell. I'm talking about limited number highly desirable cars.
CarreraG50 Posted 22July, 2013 Report Share Posted 22July, 2013 I remember 3 or 4 years ago a LHD 911 that once belonged to Sonny & Cher was for sale here in Brisbane. Was on the market for ages (came with photos of S&C with the car, autographs etc etc) still no one wanted it. I guess because they were'nt "car" people. However an ex Steve McQueen PORSCHE, $$$$$$$$ as you may remember. MW I am a fan, but in 20-30 years will he have the "cred" of a Steve McQueen......I would'nt risk paying a premium because Magnus once owned it, I would pay a premium for one of his completed cars however, just cause I like em.... Cal Posted 23July, 2013 Report Share Posted 23July, 2013 This is where 911 values get confusing. It doesn't have the correct engine, so really what the difference between it and a 912 with a flat 6 in it? About $60K would seem to be the answer. Crazy. LeeM Posted 23July, 2013 Report Share Posted 23July, 2013 Seeing as that LHD 912 with the 6cyl conversion recently sold here for under 30k, I still think the purists would stay away from MW's car. I would, even if I had the cash! I have been offered a drive in, drive out price of $30k for a rebuilt 3.0 litre 6cyl with a gearbox installed into my 912. Would that make my car desirable by a purist if I didnt have the original engine available or included in the sale price? if I had the inclination (aka, the funds!) I still wouldnt do it, as I like the originality of a cars history. Thats where I personally think MW's car doesnt hold water not being original, and is not worth a high end purchase price he is asking for it. I'm not trying to be controversial here, or start an argument, it's just my opinion, so apologies if anyone is offended
