Nasty how easy it is to do this! Good that you didn't do any lasting damage.

Agreed! My left hand middle finger tip was decapitated in a car door - all but a slim piece of skin when I was very young. Fortunately it was sewn back on successfully!  Though my nail sits a fraction off and even now can see the faint scar all these many decades later!

Very lucky Lee!

Video would have been better, sorry but having a laugh at your expense Lee, glad you are ok but this should be in the funnies thread mate.

Don't worry mate, I was apprehensive before telling the missus, as she always laughs when people hurt themselves..especially me! And yes she did ask if anyone got it on video! She has a heart of stone that woman 🙄😁

Sorry @3legs Next time I'll have my camera ready prior 😁

@Dalai I thought i had cut it off, as the blood was pouring out of the door when I was trying to grab my keys 😅🙄  I'd also forgotten to lock the house up, so theres now plenty of blood drops on the porch 😁

 Yeah @Grimmy

I did this below not long ago when drilling through some melamine, though I'd forgotten I'd fitted a new drill bit. Fortunately it just touched my hand and a bit of bark off, though I have nail gunned meself to a panel before with a 75mm nail. That wasn't much fun deciding whether to try and pull the nail out the way it went in, or pull my hand away with the nail still i the panel. I did the latter and a mate wasn't very well watching that 🤢 😅 Or maybe screwing a 50mm screw through the flesh between the thumb and forefinger then reversing the drill to get it out. That one stung a bit 😳

Worst injury I've had onsite was using a Stanley knife with my left hand (I'm right handed), and dickhead here sliced right across the top of three fingers on my right hand. Worst part (apart from the copious blood loss and stingy pain which has just made me go cold thinking about it) was that I'm a lefty guitar player and had a gig that night. Getting the lower thinner strings stuck in my fingers and blood all over my guitar and jeans wasn't much fun, but we got through it. Chicks didn't dig it though 😥

Some injuries I've seen and heard about on building sites make mine look pretty average, though it happens and you just crack on, though I do wear gloves a lot now, especially using a knife. When I went to the office, the office girl helped bandage my fingers, and the boss told me he had all his fingers trapped in an old slide up window sash after the other bloke slammed it down before he got his hands out the way and was screaming at him to pull it up. They had to break the frame to free him. I couldn't help but laugh 😅

I'm not too bad seeing stuff, yet a chippies effort with a massive splinter had me nearly pass out. That was horrendous, yet he was back onsite after he had it removed. It wouldn't stop bleeding through the bandage, so he squirted some clear silicone on the wound and taped it up. Seemed to work though 😳 Hard bastard that one...or stupid 😁

And that kiddies, is life as a tradie 👍😁

Wait until they find out your favourite car brand was founded by a member of the Nazi party.

Mind you, the VW owners should be more nervous.

The cancel culture group is a set of people with an interest.  They hunt for people, companies and brands to kill like we hunt for barn find low mileage longhoods.  They brag about it to their like-minded community like we do with a nicely restored engine.  The cancel culture is not going to stop because nobody yet has said no.

I just don't get this, never have i ever thought Coon cheese would relate to someone's race or creed, sadly this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Agreed.  I would understand and probably support a name change if the circumstances were other than the guy's name, but really?????

yep.... I'd have no problems of course if that was the case as well.

I think the company is as weak as piss for not standing up to the indigenous activist, Australian Doctor Stephen HAGAN, initiating the change.

I wish his name offended me, I'd make applications for him to have to change his name.

I't's time people and companies started standing up to this crap.

Vent over...this is a car forum after all, I apologise to the snowflakes out there for being politically incorrect

Are the family expected to change their name too?

Good reason to switch to the Australian owned brands like Bega.

Not 100% sure mate  but the name most likely got sold to another company or bigger brand decades ago ,the family may not have any input anymore ..Social do good types just dont live in the real world

The amount of welfare payments on offer at the moment with Covid 19 has only given the permanent unemployed social justice types more income and time to pursue their socialist agenda,s

For the rest of us with jobs and responsibilities paying of mortgage and supporting our families we have no time to worry about all of this meaningless crap ,,we are to busy dealing with life and focusing on what is important supporting loved ones and paying bills....Not protesting about the name of a Cheese brand

My kids have grown up with Coon slices in the fridge and, now as teenagers, were puzzled by the demand for a name change.  What for?  So I had to explain that Coon was once a derogatory term that I haven’t heard used for probably 30 years. So the irony is the name change is exposing another generation to the use of a word that died out decades ago.

sounds like the bloke agitating for it has been hounding the company through 3 different owners over 20+ years.  Has he not realised that the word is no longer in use and so his efforts are now counter productive?

The change comes after more than two decades of campaigning by Indigenous activist Stephen Hagan.  The company was originally Australian-owned, and the cheese is said to be named after American Edward William Coon.

As I work in public housing maintenance, I hear these dole bludgers just lapping it up and discussing these issues every other day, and they have absolutely no intention of changing their situation.

Sometimes its very hard to bite my tongue or not slap them in the ear.  The good thing at the moment is that the junkies are now paying double for their drugs, especially meth etc, as the dealers are cashing in on their new found wealth 😁 Couple of bludgers have told me that, and they're really pissed off about it. Poor loves 😅😅

What a way to spend your life.  Spend twenty years perfecting a skill or producing something of value?  No, spend it on some quest to change a brand name, for pats on the back from fellow agitators, then off to tilt at some other imaginary grievance windmill.  Not one single life is made better by these things.   Not one child out of poverty or increased harmony.   Collecting old cars might be equally as pointless but it does bring smiles to people faces and leave behind things of value.

Many years ago a well travelled colleague counseled me on dealing with this...

He said that in Australia we have a indirect welfare system (ie) the successful middle class support the country and the welfare is distributed indirectly via taxation.

The alternative direct welfare system involves having the "recipients" take the welfare directly from you (ie) Robbing Kidknapping etc

Well it seems a lot of them double dip then!

Every time I'm onsite, I have to lock my van and work inside vacant properties, as 9/10 there is some gronk casing the property and me to steal my tools or even my van. Our 18 year old apprentice painter was held up in a vacancy recently, and his car keys taken. He is scarred from that, and now that block of units has to be two of us onsite at any given time.

Where I was Friday and tomorrow, it was a drug lab that a bunch of junkies had turned into a fortress with bars over every window, and even CCTV front and back. The place is an absolute mess with any metal of any value removed, all walls and doors destroyed, all because they had been told numerous times to clean the place up, yet were evicted with a Police escort. I'll also mention the site manager had 120 needles removed from inside and outside the property. I fitted a new front door there on Friday, and yesterday I dropped in to pick up a tool I left onsite, as I don't trust any of these gronks, and the new door lock/handle had been smashed to bits and the new door frame repair I did all smashed up. I watched a cagey looking guy casing my gear out on Friday and I'm sure it was him.

My problem with these asshats is that we are given bugger all time to repair these homes, yet the government don't wanna pay the company the appropriate money when these worthless P.O.S sub humans trash it all. I have 22 hours to basically restore the internals of a 3 bed townhouse with 6 doors to be installed, every room either needs all new gyprock sheets or patching/flushed and sanded, all new fly screen frames made, plus fix everything else in that time, and I don't even have time to have a 15 minute lunch break as I'm flat out all day, yet that basically breaks us even with materials and labour costs. If we don't do it, we lose the contract, simple as that.

There is a 3 strike system in place for tenants apparently, yet they get away with it all the time and live in absolute squalor I wouldn't allow my dog to even walk in the front yard of.

I was oblivious to this before I started this job in October '19, yet now I have zero sympathy for anyone of these...people...who just abuse the system and themselves in the process, yet expect us all to feel sorry for them. Those who pity them should come out with me for a day or two to see how it really is, not what they read or hear. You will be gobsmacked. They're filthy scum and they don't deserve a damn thing.  ZERO chance of any sympathy from me I can telya that!

Excuse my rant. It just gets frustrating at times

Couldn't agree more Lee. Unfortunately in a previous life I knew a few of these scumbags and they would sell their mother if it meant more drug money. They should be charged and sentenced under rule 303 ( or 7.62 now days ).

I remember you mentioning that @3legs

Sadly, its an extremely profitable 'business' as you know, but I really don't care about those who take the drugs and live their lives that way. They have a choice to live that way or clean up their act, yet from what I've seen, it seems once they're in that life they choose to stay that way coz it's easier.

Oh well, as long as it continues, I'll still have a job I s'pose

Lee,

Yes I fear you are 100% correct about the double dipping.

What a bloody awful state of affairs.

I watched an interview with him on the TV and he said he had trouble walking down the cheese aisle at the supermarket, spent 20 yrs campaigning to change the name, seriously, find something real to be a victim about.
