Whats for sale (in Australia ) and interesting Thread

Recommended Posts

ahh... no. I've been there (twice) a few years ago, never again. There's a reason you can buy a 1995 Ghibli for $30-40k and the same vintage 993 is triple that...

This is mine resting in the white stuff... Congrats on the 222 4V though:D

Spent most of it's time trying to kill you? I must admit I bought it more for the looks & for family outings than for spirited drives in the mountains or track work. My race prepped MX5 does that waaaay better than anything else in the garage. It was an itch that needed to be scratched. I probably won't hang onto it for too long. Out of interest, why did you go there twice if you hated it?

I've had a big offer on my 912 by a collector in Japan today, and its VERY tempting to sell it and get something like this ^

Out of curiosity, how does one randomly get very tempting offers on ones car out of Japan? PM if you like.

Edit: LOL beaten to the question by turboT

I know this car has been discussed before (can't find the post) yet if you were after something to make your own as a track hack or 'hot rod', it'd have to be a consideration wouldnt it?

If I was to buy it, I would ditch the seats, steering wheel, and fit some cheap race seats, Momo wheel, dye paint the door trims, polish the wheels up a bit and do some other little things, and it would look great i reckon. Maybe a duck tail too

Can anyone see whether its a UK import or?? I know it looks like an exlposion in a paint factory, but it looks half decent if the owner isn't full of it

Lee, I totally agree with you. I've been looking at this car a lot and would do roughly the same thing (Prototipo, dye the door cards, maybe a set of new seats and probably a set of Fuchs to swap around with). I love this car and I love the colour.

In fact, If it was as good as it sounds on paper, I would consider swapping the 964 for it given my true love and desire for an IB car.

I posted my little Honda for sale on a forum, then looked around at peoples other rides,  posted a pic in there of my 912, then got 4 messages for the Honda, with one bloke is a big Porsche nut and ex Porsche race mechanic that owned a 65 911 previously, asked how much for my 912 too, as he misses an earlier Porsche and asked for my number to discuss it.

'What number are we talking'? Well, as I don't wanna sell it, its a LOT. 'Thats ok. What have you been offered?' $65k. 'Oh, I'd buy it for more than that'!

Errrrr.......fark!! Now you can see my indecisiveness with what to do.

I get messages nearly every week on Facebook from all over the globe asking if I want to sell my car, with the usual answer a polite no, so I know there is loads of interest in the 912's. This bloke in Japan (an Aussie by the way) has thrown the cat among the pigeons now, as in all honesty, I don't think an Aussie buyer in Australia would want to pay what he's talking.  As i told him, mine is not a full resto, its a preservation with all the original interior except for door trims, a bare metal paint job and pans replaced, yet that seems to be more attractive to some buyers than a nut n bolt resto.

The slate grey 912 on Gumtree has been sold to a collector apparently, yet the owner won't tell me what he sold it for which is cool, yet I'd just like to know to gauge what I up my insurance value to. And after being told some nasty stories about that car on the weekend, I hope whoever bought it gets it checked out. I've seen it up close, and things didn't add up, and it did need a fair bit of bodywork and full paint job.

I suppose I just see a car like that has loads of potential to be something very cool with changing a few things, quite cheaply too! I saw some seats out of a 911 on Gumtree yesterday for $250 that are a bit faded but would do the job, Momo or Sparco for under $400, harnesses etc etc. I reckon for under $3000 you could have a great looking car. If I sold the 912, I would seriously look at that Orange thing. No its not to everyones taste, yet when I would be finished with it, it would look very different

If you buy it, I hate you in advance! :-)

No longer listed. Sold?

And people were complaining about only one pic in a carsales ad.

Zero pics sells faster :D

Though it does appear that the car was marketed before being listed.

Note to self:  save ad for valuation purposes at next insurance renewal.

The posted up pictures in the end. Black with grey interior. Looked like a nice car.

The worst thing is, as I am nearing the point of moving mine on so I can buy a basket case and build a hot rod, I can't afford to even buy a basket case!  There's a rusty piece of garbage on ebay at the moment for $17k and climbing. '74 so pre galvanising.

mr wolf...boy do I have a hottie for you

HI
Ive recently written off my Porsche and im now in the market for another

http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/templestowe/cars-vans-utes/wanted-porsche-911-997-prefer-low-km-black/1084949241

possibly distracted

Your gumtree ad also mentions white.

i looked at the White 997 on carsales (now $69.9k, was $72k) and it is a very good car if you want a base 997.  One owner, full service history from Porsche dealers.  Not sure if 100k fits your definition of low kms.  In the end I pulledd the trigger on the midnight blue 993 tip that i discussed a month or so ago.  Oh my god - what a car!

Peter, you hit the nail on the head.  Byron Bay Chris and I shared a lot of PMs on the subject of 993s.  Turns out that his car and mine at twins - about 40 cars apart on the production line and both part of the first Aussie delivered batch without the hifi stereo which became standard for Australian cars.  I travelled to Melbourne with my wife to look at the car and ended up flying down with a mate to pick it up a fortnight later.  Had it serviced at Weltmeister and it checked out A-OK.  Performed great on way back -1350km trip!  Now registered in NSW and just attending to minor issues such as missing plastic clips in front compartment etc.  Will share more when I have time.

I only owned one, but a mate had one at the same time whilst we lived in Switzerland for a few years. Didn't hate it at all, loads of fun especially on icy roads, but cost an absolute bomb to keep both on the road even compared to Porsche costs, and then the rust issues begun... But I really love the understated, muscular design (Marcello Gandini got it right). And if I'm being completely honest I do browse the older ones on carsales from time to time...

As always, find an honest independent specialist to do what you can't!
