Replica Porsche.

Did you forget the italics? I take it you didn't look at the interior shot?

+1. you may be surprised to see how disproportional it looks next to a real RSK - this looks like a skinny 'stretch' RSK

Very rarely does a kit car hit the nail on the head. That thing looks superb!

I look at it in the terms of someone that built it in their shed.

Pretty sure that'd never include most people in this thread.

If you read the UC article it was an absolute mess when the restorer got it. He spent lots of time

& $$$$ getting it "right". OK it could do with some PORSCHE guages etc. but I've seen Purvis Eureka's

go for this money (I know which I'd prefer).

I'd still have it at that price.

Maybe I was a little blunt. Yeah hats off to the guy for building it in his shed and all, but in my mind his time would have been better spent building a clubbie or something. Here is an RSK for proportion comparison. As hugh said, looks like it got put on the rack. :)

The problem with kits to make them like the real thing is logistics. Same problems I encountered with my 'Manx' beach buggy.  As soon as the floor is shortened or a custom frame made, it becomes a registration nightmare here in the Nanny Country. So with that in mind and the only alternative being  an ICV I still think they did a good job all in all.

Dash is butt ugly but the body lines look tops.

Yep same applies to the Speedster replicas. To get them right, they need to be both shortened and the floor lowered considerably. Which as you say, you are no longer allowed to do. Can no longer import a finished car, as customs deem them to be new cars and need to pass ADR's.

Cal likes left handed fine corse grain bread too much. :P . Stupid Cal.

As John said for 26K (or less) it's just a good bit of fun. You're never going to fool anyone but should a 3ltr SC motor find it's way inside it you are going to have some fun. So relax and don't think to hard about it.

A few of these were built in Melb some years back. 80s I think. It was after you were not allowed to cut & shut VW pans, that's why they are so long behind the front wheel arch. Also they are rear engine, not mid. $ were built??? Memory a bit vague on them now. Far as I know all were built with VW motors.

I still have a huge soft spot for a 356 speedster replica, one may still find it's way into my garage.

I think that a replica, with Porsche running gear would be the ultimate compliment to the brand. $40k for a nice replica 356 (or $26k in this instance for this RSK) against $150k + for the real thing, makes the replicas pretty appealing if they are done right.

Cal, keep me in mind if your sources ever steer you to a truly exceptional 356 speedster replica.

Barry, I recall probably mid seeing a number of full page adds and maybe an article or two.

All were with VW motors and running gear, but for the life of me I can't remember th name of the company.

Would have been early-mid 80s. I thought it was "SK Spyder" but the google machine didn't help.

Would have loved that in my late teens.
