Brisbane Mid Weeknight Street Meet (planning/idea thread)

Recommended Posts

okay, so based on the amount of times we end up standing round talking Porsches on drives, would anyone be keen on meeting up and looking at cars/eating in a car park somewhere on a weeknight?

somewhere central would suit everyone

anyone else keen on the idea? or am I crazy?

  • 3 months later...

so, I'm thinking of doing this at work - there's a lot of space and off street parking in a secure area and lighting. Morningside about 5 minutes from the gateway motorway in a quiet industrial area?

anyone keen?

It's close to the gateway motorway for people coming up from the southern areas, and down from the north

from looking at the car park last night it was fairly free around this time (so we should be able to get some good parks)

anyone got any suggestions apart from try it?

Just to be sure that would be the 5th of March?, if that venue doesnt pan out, a mate with a WRX meets with other

ricers at the cannon hill shopping centre car park, again on a weeknight, I believe there is a few takeaway/coffee

joints open there as well.  Also not far from the gateway.. either one is good for me, look forward to it.

Sounds good, definitely will be there.

Is the plan to chat around the cars and check them all out while getting takeaway coffee / softdrinks or sit in the restaurant?

My car will be at Michael's for the upgrades but will bring Marti's car instead.

Also are we making this just a Porker thing or can people with other unique cars join in as well?

Cheers Al

Not sure what style of get together you're looking for?

If basing it on the LA style event, they use it to check out unique cars in a parking lot / strip mall location with a cafe / shops that's there you can grab coffee / drinks / food while walking around checking out the cars.

Personally that's what I'd like as I like to look at people's cars and ask them what they've done etc and learn about our Pcars as well as other types.

There are a lot of guys in Brisbane with some pretty unique / desirable cars and old school bikes etc and I think it would be great to get them at something like this in a mid week environment for a couple of hours to check out their latest projects / purchase / build etc.

Regardless whatever way you decide to do it I'll be there as we need something like this regularly say once a month midweek to just sit around and shoot the shit about our cars.

Cheers Al

At our GTG last night we were talking about future locations with good food drink options and I sent this info to Russ and he suggested I post it here for everyone to comment on.

These two would be easy to get to for anyone coming from either North or South, East or West.

It's the Reading Shopping Centre at Newmarket which is directly behind the newly refurbished Newmarket hotel.

Really nice parking lot upstairs outside all the restaurants, cafe's, shops and backs onto the pub bistro. It also has a tonne of under ground parking in case of rain / sudden storms.

Would probably be pretty quiet on a mid week evening at that time so wouldn't be a problem to all park together up top. Might even be able to do a deal with one of the Cafe's or something.

This is a list of current vendors .

  • Baker’s Delight
  • Eagle Boys Pizza
  • Gloria Jean´s Coffee
  • Go Sushi
  • Grill´d Healthy Burgers
  • Nando´s Chicken
  • Rangla Punjab Indian
  • Ray´s Patisserie & Bakery
  • Red Rock Noodle Bar
  • Subway
  • Sushi Edo
  • Vinnie's Café
  • Newmarket Hotel

Another choice is there is a similar place right beside Harry's Diner at the other end of Newmarket Rd but with only a Subway, Fish & Chips and a couple more shops. This location usually takes the overflow from large Harry's Diner nights. It is located at the following maps location.

Both of these locations are easy to get to, and they are at either end of Newmarket Rd.

Both locations are accessible via the Tunnel, Story Bridge or Southeast Freeway and are at most 5 minutes from each other.

Please post your thoughts and any alternatives.

Apologies for the wall of text and also I don't know the southside area so will leave it up to those that do to make suggestions.

 Cheers Al
