espskk Posted 16October, 2013 Report Share Posted 16October, 2013 Hi all, I had cause to pull my steering wheel off recently and without thinking reconnected the battery while the airbag was disconnected. I now have the airbag fault light on the dash which will not clear. I have been on a few forums and understand that the light will have to be reset and will not clear itself. So my questions are, 1. Where is the OBD port, from other forums I believe it is supposed to be beneath the steering wheel. I can see the fuse box, I can see all the relays but I cant see the OBD port??? 2. My car is a 99 Carrera Cab. Is there a diagnostic tool available to read and clear fault codes, from research I can only find them for 2001 models on. Thanks for your help. Caver Posted 16October, 2013 Report Share Posted 16October, 2013 The port on my Boxster is on the passenger side under the dash, just near the glove compartment. It's on the underside of the dash, not the side wall. Might be different in your 996. I bought a cheap PIWIS tool from Ebay which runs off a laptop. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Porsche-Piwis-Cable-Diagnostic-Tool-Brand-New-including-software-/281145515281?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4175941d11#ht_1032wt_1161 I was able to examine the ECU and error codes. Don't know whether it can reset codes, it says that it can but I've never tried it. Best to get the dealer to do it next service.
