Orion03 Posted 12November, 2013 Report Share Posted 12November, 2013 Do we have any 997 squeaks and rattles experts here? I have this squeak squeak from the rear right of my car..... any ideas on where it is coming from? sounds like some internal plastics making noises. Or could be the rear right window panel. twood Posted 12November, 2013 Report Share Posted 12November, 2013 Lend me the car for a week and I will see if I can find it for you - will require it over a weekend when there is a track day pending No charge of course.
GC9911 Posted 12November, 2013 Report Share Posted 12November, 2013 Without being obvious I would say it's coming from the right rear. But seriously, make sure the rear seat backs are firmly pushed back, mine used to "squeak" where the latch in the seat back engaged with the pin, try a little white grease or silicone lubricant on the stem of the pins. Orion03 Posted 12November, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 12November, 2013 Good idea, I'll have a look there. I also read on rennlist that the rear side window moves around a bit.
Pabloau Posted 13November, 2013 Report Share Posted 13November, 2013 The boys on 911UK.com have a thread on this, just can't find it at the moment, 6-7 guys had or have recently had the same issue....... If I find it I'll post the link
Russ Posted 14November, 2013 Report Share Posted 14November, 2013 I remember doing VW pre deliveries and after finding a squeak pulling the door trim apart to put this all over it - it's awesome stuff for stopping squeaks but a heck of a job! Orion03 Posted 14November, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 14November, 2013 thanks for the link. Funny enough, I was having a push at that rear side window, seeing how much give and float it actually has, and after a bit of pushing and shoving the squeak has gone away.... Orion03 Posted 4March, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 4March, 2014 I think it's actually the rubber of the window that squeaks, i.e. it's rubbing on itself. cause after I wash the car, it stops squeaking, and then when the car is really dry... it starts squeaking. So of cause when I tried to show the squeak to Porsche Melbourne.... it wasn't squeaking. might try some Meguiars plastic and rubber spray. Orion03 Posted 4March, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 4March, 2014 that's what I am thinking, I figure that the squeak is rubber rubbing on rubber as the window moves in the frame.
Steiny Posted 11March, 2014 Report Share Posted 11March, 2014 Let me know how you go. Was on a country run last Sunday and noticed an identical squeak to what you described coming from the same general location.

SteveT Posted 12March, 2014 Report Share Posted 12March, 2014 Drive a convertible - they rattle like crazy. Just turn up the stereo or the revs! My 987 doesn't have ANY rattles, top up or top down.
withers Posted 12March, 2014 Report Share Posted 12March, 2014 My 987 doesn't have ANY rattles, top up or top down. Not even when the passenger seat is empty and not squished under the rollbar hoop? Every convertible I've owned or test driven has had a rattle of some sort. Whether it's an empty seat or the roof itself. I'm now on my 9th convertible.
