So much for the speed kills theory, they changed from unlimited speed to 130km/h limit and increase the death toll...!!!

"While the Northern Territory once had open speed limits they were scrapped in 2007 and replaced with a 130km/h limit in return for an increase in commonwealth funding. However, from that time until 2012, more people died on Northern Territory roads than in the six years before the change"

The roads in the nt are second to none in build quality that I've driven on in Aus, perfect pothole free highway and the unlimited run on the whole Stuart highway was great it meant you could easily get to tennant creek from Darwin in one day, all daylight, speed limiting just introduced massive fatigue and increase cost of goods trucked up and down. Hopefully the trial confirms the old way was better, most crashes when I was up there were tourists.

Lets hope the toll stays low and sense prevails. All It needs is a spike in crashes and limits will be back.

I think most tourist crashes are from being on the wrong side or underestimating the distance and fatigue. Education is needed for all road users, not so much restrictions.
