Garage Queens & Road Kings Event - expressions of interest...

Hey All.

Lately I've been chatting with various ends of our PFA memberage, discussing what types of events we might like to see offered this year, events that might encourage a broader participation than that of simply SMTs, carpark get-togethers etc.

Ideas include:

Garage Queens & Road Kings - A "show and shine" type event, with two streams -

1st, essentially a concourse type event for the (over) pampered Garage Queens within our cohort, - "Gentlemen, start your buffers!",

as well as,

2nd, an opportunity for those with rare or track/road beasties to display and share that which usually remain hidden at the back of the garage in-between appropriate tarmac and/or timed outings. (patina welcomed!)

Chatting today with Barry (Airhead) and Ursula about their collection, it would be great to see rarities and outlaws like their Geneer; or Uncle's Black n' Blue Beastie (destined for a home south of the border I might have heard!); or DD's ex-993GT2 (we'll have to find where that car went to…), displayed for all to admire, and potentially develop slightly unnatural and unhealthy cravings for!    ^_^

Niko and I have spoken about getting in an independent, guest judge to come and adjudicate, and ultimately crown the PFA GQ 2014 and PFA RK 2014, and we had thought to make it a public type event possibly hosted in a park, close to appropriate and required consumables such as coffee and bacon & egg rolls… :P  ;)

Other ideas include an Über-Model Workshop where I might host an afternoon/evening explaining the basic principles and techniques of auto photography to assist turning the happy snaps of your beloved, into something more like that which graces the pages of our favourite car magazines etc.  B)

And finally, a PFA Track Day event, in association with an advanced driving school, or possibly CAMMS, where members might receive driving style and technique advise via instruction, as well as an "open track" opportunity. I see it as a day where members with much, or no track experience could all receive valuable tuition, as well as going for a fang with the gang!

So, what I'm looking for are expressions of interest in order to see which way we go first, if at all...

* Garage Queen & Road King - show, shine & coronation

* Über-Model Workshop - auto porn

* Drive It Like You Stole Own It - track day

(sometimes I think I just have waay too much fun with all this stuff! :) )

Clearly I have no details yet as its just a set of cunning plans, but based on the bones of it...

Expressions of interest…?

All 3 ideas sound great and would love to participate - happy to lend a hand to organise/assist where possible too. Just give me a shout, I'll be around here somewhere................. ;)

Perhaps an extension to the photo session, we could do an in-car video day. Make it separate to an SMT so there are no issues with the shy brigade. We would need to have plenty of stops and chit chat to compare and adjust techniques.

I for one have a very unused Go pro and would love to learn to use it properly.

Hmmm.............wonder which of the three will interest me.

Don't have a garage queen or road king.

If it doesn't auto focus then I can't be bothered.

Oh well............that leaves only one option.

Happy to help out though!

Was it you Niko that wasn't sure about who would go to a track day? Told you Theo would go :P

I'd be up for a track day of some sort.

I don't have a garage queen

and i'm not big on photography.

I volunteer YOU for the really exciting action shots.  Which one first? Ken Block gymkhana or Dukes of Hazzard creek crossing...

Hmmm........track day!!!

If I ever sell my car I will delete every post in this forum that relates to me driving the car in the manner it was designed for and advertise that it was driven by a little old lady every Sunday to church.

I'm up for all three types of event.
Track days are bit of an issue to do re planning and more specifically cost. There are a number of options.
1 Tack onto another clubs sprint day. You need a Cams or AASA sprint licence. Get timed runs for bragging rights.
2 Go to Winton on a Friday Test and Tune day. Pay your money and drive. Still need a licence. No timed runs, just laps - lots of them.
3 Organise our own. Nothing about 15K for track hire etc wont fix.
4 Do a John Bowe drive day. Instruction, lots of laps for around $500
5 For newbys who have not got a licence you do one of the new Cams Come and Try days. There is one at Sandown this coming Sunday. You get some theory sessions and at least 2 track sessions with instructors beside you for about $100. The Sandown one is gfull but more a planned through the year. Google MSCA Come and Try and you can see the details on their website.   http://www.msca.net.au/index.php Maybe get in early as a group for the next one at Winton on 16 March (Grand Prix day) or April 6 at Phillip Island. Come down to Sandown next Sunday and have a look and I can explain how it works.

All sound great and I'm a starter for each.

I'm happy to help out in relation to a track day in any way.

Show and Shine to start perhaps as a track day is a fair bit of wrok to get off the ground.

I think perhaps consider have a John Bowe type organisation put one on for us rather than go it alone.  Takes care of most of the hidden nasties like safety and insurance as well as providing some good instruction.
