Carrera28 Posted 5February, 2014 Report Share Posted 5February, 2014 Hi, Need to get some track tyres for a set of 17 inch 996 rims. The standard tyres are: 205 50 17 The rims are 7 inches wide Will I be able to fit: 215 45 17 When I do the calculation the variance is approximately 2% which I can live with for track tyres. My question is whether they will physically fit on the rim safely given they will be thrown around the track.
9fan Posted 5February, 2014 Report Share Posted 5February, 2014 Go to a race tyre site eg Toyo,Dunlop,Bridgestone and you will see what rims they recommend for tyre size or v/v and you can decide on brand to suit.I gather the rears are wider. Also check compound soft/hard. Eg Toyo Proxy 888 215/45/17 fit rim7"to 8" as does 225 but I would stick with 215 on a 7" rim Cheers,Mark.
Pauly Posted 6February, 2014 Report Share Posted 6February, 2014 it's usually 20mm width increase and 5mm profile decrease. i went from a 205 55 16 to a 225 50 16. with very close ratios.
