Import long bonnet values?

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Having only had my 3.2 for less than 2 weeks I find myself lusting after more......and for me that is a long bonnet pre '73 car....I just think they're beautiful.

I'm assuming Australian delivered specimens are out of my budget (apparently so are Turbo Fuchs wheels according to my wife).

But I was curious about the market value for a good condition original unrestored American import SWB car from California or other desert states?

Are you talking about their value here or in the US? Sounds like you mean here. They don't come up very often. Ask me how I know! These are world market cars now. Any 65-69 SWB in good original condition is worth money. RHD or LHD it doesn't matter (unless converted). Coupes and targas also seem to be closer in value than later cars. To put a figure on it, I'm going to say $75K ball park. There are thousands of variables, but that seems to me to about average globally.

Then there are 912's with flat 6 conversions. They are vastly cheaper. Even cheaper than original 912's these days it would appear. This is the route I went because it is what I could afford.

Hey Mate,

Values can be varied and generally depend on;

- Where they were originally delivered (org RHD or converted)

- Is it a 'T', 'E' or 'S' will play a role

- Where they were delivered may expose them to rust (common in UK cars for example)

- All imported cars are from California  <_< (worth trying to find out where it really came from!)

- Matching engine/gear box

- If not matching what is it? correct for the period etc.

- Then just the usual, what work has been done, when/where/who

Based on the above values will go from 30k upwards - 30k being a pretty tired, potentially rusty non matching no.s converted car to a more original example in 'fair' condition being closer to the 50k mark (still may be a converted car). I know of a great uk car (orig RHD) non matching no. that has recently sold for 70k, others tend to sit on the market and when you dig a little deeper you will understand why. Aus del cars will go onwards and upwards from there, coupe, targa etc. can all have a role to play (and dont forget a premium on colour!)  B)

Thinking prices here in Austraila.

WOW 912/6 cheaper than original? What sort of $$$.

Would be impressed to see one with a later higher powered engine.

Hi Black Pearl,

Definitely I agree with Cal that these are now world cars.

It's rare to see a good SWB on the market.  Even rarer for a good condition original unrestored.  And even rarer again for the car to have truly lived it's entire life in Cali or a dry state.

And like Hugh says it depends on whether the car is a 'T', 'L', or 'S'.

I'd agree with Cal on his ballpark figure of $75k does not sound unreasonable.

A SWB 911 would be a cool car to own, but some would say that a SWB 912 hits a sweet spot of balance and power.

 .

I agree that the market for decent cars starts at around 60-70k, I was just wanting to preempt someone posting a listing for a 30k 901 and having to explain why this so.............

Rust is a killer!

huh??

lurks... as in waiting in the shadows, hanging about etc...while rust is not only confined to early P cars - it is certainly there :0 ; just present in differing locations and extent.

there is a SWB 68 lhd 912 in SA for sale

Checking out a swb 912 on Friday that may be on the market. The owner is looking to move it on and clear out the shed. Sounds really good but I will see in the day.

Have been watching 71-73 911's needing about 50k spent on them selling for 15k very quickly in the US lately.

Seems like everyone and anyone is pulling out whatever they have and hocking it while the market is HOT.

I've watched this market for a really long time and it shows no sign of cooling off.

Ive been watching these early 911 for ages, and I did not see a lhd pop up that quick.

If you are referring to the silver lhd targa, that had been on carsales for many many months and was only changed to sold status the last couple of days.

How'd you know it got sold to a guy in germany?

There is a nice little red targa on now for 45k.. but is a rhd convert.

Check out typ901.org.

It's a pretty tight knit group, and very clicky.. but they know their cars well. You'll soon find out that australian import, rhd and matching numbers rule...

Mikedsilva:

That's the one. I did a search for recently listed and it was No. 4 on the list.

I contacted te seller RE his air con replacement.

He said the car just sold to a guy in Germany. Also had 3 enquiries from the UK.
