GC9911 Posted 25February, 2014 Report Share Posted 25February, 2014 No, I am on my second 991 & paint is perfect. What paint issue are you referring to?
Man Cairns Posted 25February, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 25February, 2014 My friends car is silver and it has developed light spots through the paint. As time goes on they are getting worse. I have read in the states people have had the same issue.
GC9911 Posted 26February, 2014 Report Share Posted 26February, 2014 The first 991 I had was GT Silver & had no problems.
Guest Harold Posted 28February, 2014 Report Share Posted 28February, 2014 Mine is silver and is developing some small rusty looking spots underneath the plastic body protectors on the rear. Going to take it to the dealer next week.
GC9911 Posted 1March, 2014 Report Share Posted 1March, 2014 Mine is silver and is developing some small rusty looking spots underneath the plastic body protectors on the rear. Going to take it to the dealer next week. Harold, I have the same brown marks on the plastic, I think it's where the plastic gets grazed by stones & the dirt gets in? I could be wrong, it's happened before, I'd like to know what the dealer says, I am assuming you are at PC Willoughby?
Guest Harold Posted 1March, 2014 Report Share Posted 1March, 2014 Greg, yes to Willoughby. I will take it in on Wednesday as long as it is not raining. I think the wet will distort the picture so to speak. I have had a close look and I reckon it is under the plastic but I am happy to be wrong. Will post once they assess it. Guest Harold Posted 5March, 2014 Report Share Posted 5March, 2014 Greg, I took the P car in today but got messed up with an unplanned and unscheduled visit from someone. I was going to leave at 3 to go to SVM but didn't leave until 5'ish. Will try again soon.
Mike D'Silva Posted 7March, 2014 Report Share Posted 7March, 2014 the paint warranty on the modern cars is pretty good. If there is an issue, I'm sure they will get it repainted no problem.
Steiny Posted 8March, 2014 Report Share Posted 8March, 2014 You just need to build a 'relationship' with the guys at your dealer.

Greg, it has taken a while but i finally took the car into SVM today and they found the marks are some sort of tar that has splattered on the plastic. They used a solvent and removed them completely. Whilst i was there i looked at the new 991 GT3 and Turbo S. If i had any sort of a reason at all i would buy the turbo. $530k with all the nice bits on it. It looks a million dollars. My panel beater gave me some Prepsol & this pretty well removed all the spots on mine as well. I'm using the excuse that the GT3 is only PDK to stop any nonsense thoughts, but I did drive one at PCSS before they were grounded & it was very, very tempting even in PDK. Re the turbo, could you really keep your license in the nanny state for more than a week in a turbo? I was at PCW about a year ago & there was a 997 turbo in white with about 16,000kms on it, WOW what a car, it stood out even in a showroom full of new Porsches. I just purchased a new X5 with the M pack in white so this should scratch the itch for a while I hope.
Guest Harold Posted 30April, 2014 Report Share Posted 30April, 2014 I know that itchy feeling. Fortunately i dont have it at the moment but i might develop it when the new Macan Turbo is released. I use a humble CRV for my day to day work commute but i could easily talk myself into needing (read must have) the Macan. Actually, i can hear the voice already, way off in the background. Groan. Hey Harold, In case you are serious about a Macan, I have an August build slot/december delivery with PCSS... for a few good reasons I am thinking about pulling the pin on it, if you are half thinking about it.. I will offer my spot to you. I hear it is nearly a year wait right now!

If I don't like the X5 the Macan waiting list should be better by then.

The difficultyfor me is i like to see what i am ordering before i place the order. Is yours the Turbo? That is the model i would buy.
Guest Harold Posted 30April, 2014 Report Share Posted 30April, 2014 Right now i am scratching an itch to replace my motor bike. I keep hitting myself with an uppercut or two as my bike only has 11,500 kms on it but i like the new K1600GT. I currently have a K1200GT.

I originally opted for Diesel S, I've only fronted up a grand or two (I cant remember exactly but just the EOI one) so its not locked down hence you can opt for whatever model/spec you want really mate... I believe they'll have their demo car June 14 according to their email. Wait to see it/drive it before locking down, I would and was not going to do it any other way. I saw one in the flesh at Top Gear festival... incredible looking car, a lot of that 918 & 991 design language going on! So I don't think you'd be disappointed there, now the drive.... that is what I am reading is the sell point. Anyway, no stress... but if you decide you want it, I am sure I can talk to my salesman to get it re-delegated! Right now i am scratching an itch to replace my motor bike. I'm sure it drives brilliantly but it's still an SUV, if I want a Porsche sports car shouldn't I buy a 911? If I want an SUV shouldn't I buy one primarily for the space with good driving as a side benefit. In the end I chose the X5 so I could put 2 mountain bikes & 2 sets of golf clubs in at the same time, pretty sure this is not possible with the Macan given it's only 100mm longer than the Q5. I did consider the Cayenne but can't go through the rigmarole of hiding it when visiting clients or trying to explain to people who will never understand anyway. (Bit off topic but WGAS). You made the right decision IMO, 911 for pleasure and X5 for practicality! I don't think there is a better "SUV" out there than the X5.... I honestly don't. one reason Im' holding back is towing capacity..... Macan is only 2400 kg iirc? One of my biggest upcoming debates in life is moored boat or trailer boat!
