ByronBayChris Posted 27February, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 27February, 2014 Looks good too, but not sure about the upgrade "Upgraded by Canepa Design for Enhance usability and Performance" They take off the two different size turbo and replace them with modern ones ones.. .amongst other things If Ibwas paying $700k for this, I would want.it totally original
D-banger Posted 27February, 2014 Report Share Posted 27February, 2014 They're super expensive to maintain...which some say has held back their pricing.
Tit Posted 27February, 2014 Report Share Posted 27February, 2014 What makes them more expensive than a 964/993? Seems like a few common parts in there.
Pauly Posted 27February, 2014 Report Share Posted 27February, 2014 Agreed on would want the factory turbos on the car. Each time Porsche make a 'Hyper car' It's always left hand drive This one, CGT, 918. I'm pretty sure the CGT RHD had an option that was over 10k. There's one for sale on rennlist if no one has seen it.. http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/vehicle-marketplace/802183-2004-porsche-carrera-gt-new-clutch-fresh-service-xt-seats-and-1-181-miles.html
tazzieman Posted 27February, 2014 Report Share Posted 27February, 2014 Each time Porsche make a 'Hyper car' It's always left hand drive But honestly , where would you drive a hypercar in Australia? Not theoretically , but actually if you had paid the cash and had the keys in your hand and the insurance all paid up? LHD or not , the visibility will be likely be atrocious , so the CBD is definitely not an option. I spose you could hire a track privately . But then the pose value would be lost? I dunno. Targa? Some have done it I enjoy reading about the Gallardo in Classic & Sports Car (I think) that the writers have racked up ~200000 miles in!
ByronBayChris Posted 27February, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 27February, 2014 Must be why all these cars, almost 30 years old.have done only hundreds ok kms per year.I read that most of the mileage is added by the mechanics as they try to maintain these.cars
D-banger Posted 27February, 2014 Report Share Posted 27February, 2014 What makes them more expensive than a 964/993? Seems like a few common parts in there. I'm not sure how much common parts there are. My understanding is that the engine was TT with air-cooled cylinders and water cooled heads, unique gear-box with an off-road gear, aluminium and kevlar composite body, nomex floor, plus lots of additional electronics. I'm not sure how much is shared between the drive train of the 964 C4.
Tit Posted 27February, 2014 Report Share Posted 27February, 2014 So the maintenance cost is probably in the rare parts for the gearbox and cooling system, plus very few mechanics trained to work on it (?)

Russ Posted 28February, 2014 Report Share Posted 28February, 2014 that's actually one of the best 959 replicas I've seen. The price is realistic and it looks good (and on a good base to start with)

JustJames Posted 28February, 2014 Report Share Posted 28February, 2014 Some of you will have seen the silver 959 that was at RennSport last year. That car was re-commissioned by Autohaus Hamilton. There was a great deal on it that was unique to the 959, as others have mentioned. The car is a mixture of contemporary Porsche parts (remember, it pre-dated the 964), things that looked like they were borrowed from race cars of the era (such as the air and water cooled engine) and there were also pieces that looked very much like thay had been custom fabricated). As a side issue, before setting up the parts business here at Autohaus Hamilton, I visited a number of Porsche specialists, one of which was Canepa Design. At the time they had 4 959's in their (mahoosive) workshop. That's one more 959 than there are in Australia.

If you were after a replica, this would be the one to get.
9fan Posted 1March, 2014 Report Share Posted 1March, 2014 From Ad above - There are no genuine Porsche 959's in Australia so this is as close as you can get! I have seen 2 in Melb including the Lindsay Fox one !!!! Some pople say anything to make a sale.
ByronBayChris Posted 1March, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 1March, 2014 Well, no genuine 959s on the road. Such a shame that such great cars get used more by the service technicians than the owners Also, at their $330.000 price new in 85, woukd prices close to $900,000 30 years later seem like a poor return. Considering servicing and likely huge parts costs, I wonder what's left after the sale??
Norm Posted 1March, 2014 Report Share Posted 1March, 2014 Mind you a lot of people say about sports cars and Porsches in general, 'but where can you really drive it properly?' But we seem to find the time and place to do it!! So that same reasoning could be applied to someone fortunate and wealthy enough to by a 959, 458 and other hyper cars.. Having said that though the cost and investment factors do play a part and keep the km down with cars such as these. I think the saddest example of this is the original McLaren F1. Value is astronomical now and apart from the ones which were raced, i would like to know the average km on a 'normal' one. And by that same token it's nice to see Porches tend to have higher km than say Ferrari's, which means the owners actually DRIVE them; which says a lot about the product. Simonoz Posted 13March, 2014 Report Share Posted 13March, 2014 There are 3 959's I'm aware of here. None in WA. I'd like to change that but it's problematic from a servicing point of view.

I watched a short video on Porsche classic service, interesting how many 959 are there.
