Orion03 Posted 18March, 2014 Report Posted 18March, 2014 There's a couple of gremlins in my 997. 1) turns on the "home parking light" even when it's daylight and I haven't touched the light switch. 2) It's happen twice now that the car just gets rough at idle, and loses power at take off, like it's down to 5 cylinders? in my old lotus I'll be opening the bonnet and checking the spark plug leads. Any ideas people?

Steiny Posted 19March, 2014 Report Posted 19March, 2014 Throttle by wire - there's an electronic box under the accelerator pedal. You could try: 1. Disconnect the battery for 20mins or longer 2. Reconnect battery 3. Turn on the ignition (but don't start) 4. Wait 30secs or more until the electronics settle 5. Press accelerator five times fully to the floor 6. Turn off 7. Turn on 8. Start car 9. Test drive This might re-set your throttle\accelerator electronics and battery disconnected for 20+ mins might also sought out the home parking light. It worked for me when I had a flat spot on acceleration.
Orion03 Posted 19March, 2014 Author Report Posted 19March, 2014 Don't you still have warranty on your car ? Yes I have warranty.. but it's one of those one in a while intermittent faults that's hard to show to a mechanic you know. Throttle by wire - there's an electronic box under the accelerator pedal. Thanks for that, I'll try it.
Airhead Posted 20March, 2014 Report Posted 20March, 2014 6. Turn off 7. Turn on 8. Start car 9. Test drive Straight from the Windows Manual

Orion03 Posted 25March, 2014 Author Report Posted 25March, 2014 well I picked up the 997 and drove her some from Sydney to Melbourne, arrived feeling fine, not really tired. In the Elise... I'll be dragging myself out of the car and lying on the floor like a aching puddle, backside inflamed with pain. And that's from when I was 10 years younger! On the other hand, on a tight mountain road... I miss the open top Elise, all the feelings of noise, scenery, wind, acceleration and deceleration, were just more magnified in the Elise, and the 728 kg car Vs 1400 kg. But.... stuff it up and the Elise depends on my poor lacking skills to save me, while the 997 have Porsche Save Me (PSM) and ABS etc. Older now and wiser and more accepting of my lack of Fangio skills.... yeah the 997 is great.
Hounddub Posted 27March, 2014 Report Posted 27March, 2014 My brother in law has an Exige.....he now prefers my 997 and is considering a C2S right now to replace it.
Orion03 Posted 27March, 2014 Author Report Posted 27March, 2014 they are hard core cars and hard to live with, 997 is just a better all rounder.
