witho Posted 27April, 2014 Report Share Posted 27April, 2014 I've saw these guys at a couple car events that I attended over the Easter break. Does anyone insure with them, or have you heard anything about them? Apparently they are a specialist division of East West Insurance Brokers and they are offering specialised insurance for classic and prestige vehicles as well as bikes and vintage caravans. Thanks Witho.
PeterP Posted 27April, 2014 Report Share Posted 27April, 2014 I had my car insured with them, however when it came time to renew, found that Shannon's were more competitive. Mind you, it seems to change on a monthly basis....
Deejay Posted 27April, 2014 Report Share Posted 27April, 2014 Had them insuring the Carrera for a few years now. They wouldn't insure the GT3 as it's a newer model, so I went with Dawes who were a little more expensive than Ryno when I got all my original quotes. Had an elderly woman nudge the side of the Carrera last year and her insurance APIA agreed to pay for the repair, but they wouldn't allow me to use my chosen repairer so I rang Ryno who told me to put in a claim and they would organise it all. They sorted it all out and the car went to my repairer who was happy with their service etc. I was told it would be a not at fault claim and it wouldn't change my no claims bonus or the cost of the policy. Just got the renewal a few days ago and they have increased my policy by $90 and I can't see any reason why. Will give them a call this week and see what is going on. Might be time to give Dawes another go or maybe try someone else.
Steiny Posted 29April, 2014 Report Share Posted 29April, 2014 I think a $90 increase is purely inflationary.
Deejay Posted 30April, 2014 Report Share Posted 30April, 2014 I think a $90 increase is purely inflationary. What are you paying for your policy if a $90 increase is inflation ? My policy with Dawes for the GT3 actually dropped by $26 this year.
Steiny Posted 1May, 2014 Report Share Posted 1May, 2014 What are you paying for your policy if a $90 increase is inflation ? My policy with Dawes for the GT3 actually dropped by $26 this year. You are extremely fortunate then. All my insurance premiums (homes, cars etc) are automatically and arbitrarily increased by the insurance provider when up for renewal. They rely on people just paying the increased premium without question which means I need to shop around and change providers each year. My recent renewal on the 997 had a premium increase of $200 and cover reduction of $15K. Needless to say I moved the policy.
SteveT Posted 1May, 2014 Report Share Posted 1May, 2014 When my insurance renewal arrived it had an increase. Rang them and I could start again with a new policy for about the same price as the previous. Must be a bit of the old just renew syndrome like a lot of people do with insurance, phone company etc. All I lost was the roadside assist which you get after the first year with Allianz. Not planning on a breakdown. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, I get the same cover reduction every year from Dawes but only $10K, which I suppose you'll get from any company if you have a newer Porsche, they're never going to give you agreed value even though they call it that. I do get the loyalty discount though. Spoke with Ryno and they agreed that the $90 increase on my $700 policy was higher than normal and was due to someone making the mistake that I had a claim and not realising it was a not at fault claim. They're going to send out a new policy with $16 increase as per previous years, so I'll stick with them for now. At least we get to have proper agreed value on the old classics that doesn't change every year.
911dream'n Posted 2July, 2014 Report Share Posted 2July, 2014 Just a quick follow up note: I am new to the PFA but have found it useful for research in to my first 911. The search for my dream car has just about taken over my life the last while but finally I have just bought, subject to a PPI, an '07 911S. Happy days ahead. Anyway, I need to insure it and have found a great deal of variance in the cost, and coverage of insurance. As this thread relates to Ryno Insurance I won't detail the other quotes. I have had Ryno insurance previously with a BMW X5 and had to claim an at fault accident (hit a big rock cunningly disguised as sand on Morton island) Anyway, If I combine my wife's car and my Jeep with the 911 the effect is that they will insure the 911 to agreed value ($88k) for $1027 or the 911 (with one other vehicle) for $1146 including hire car and windscreen cover with a $500 excess. Sounds pretty reasonable to me...
