T-Man Posted 28April, 2014 Report Share Posted 28April, 2014 Send a PM to steve 993, he has been through this type of mod and back again. Dave Both Steve and I did our transmission mounts at the same time. It has added a little NVH, however the shift has tightened up a little and to be honest, I'm not fazed as the car is set up firmer than most 993s. Steve on the other hand is a big soft teddy and the extra vibration was hurting his bottom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I will pay for this, I'm sure) He pulled the mount out and reverted back to standard. Note that the my 993 C4 mount is different to Steve's standard Carrera mount, so that may be an influencing factor. JimTT also put one into his 996TT and is happy as a pig in the proverbial. StevepGT3 Posted 28April, 2014 Report Share Posted 28April, 2014 It must be that the tractor type 4X4 Pcars mount from underneath the gearbox, as good design was thrown out when they tried to turn a sports car into a jeep. whereas the the lithe, athletic and propper RWD P cars the mount is between the gearbox and the floor of the car therefore transferring LOTS of unnecessary NVH when stiffened
Jimmy Posted 29April, 2014 Report Share Posted 29April, 2014 I love the extra NVH (little), better gear changes and tighter drive line. Would have thought soft bottoms would have dampened the vibration.....
Carrera28 Posted 29April, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 29April, 2014 So the consensus seems to be they work and make a difference and are not simply a con?
Pauly Posted 29April, 2014 Report Share Posted 29April, 2014 There's a simple solution for everything.
Pauly Posted 29April, 2014 Report Share Posted 29April, 2014 On a serious note though, instead of paying that much and delivery. You can DIY it. all you need it some Urethane http://www.blackwoods.com.au/part/04127002/urethane-liquid-devcon-flexane-80-454gm and some masking tape. and your wifes old baking tray. (make sure its old, or you may find seeing stars if she finds out that you're not baking cookies on it) Tape up the sides and bottom, mix the urethane and pour from the top. allow to dry. Just don't pour it into where the bolts go.. Works with engine mounts too.
OZ930 Posted 29April, 2014 Report Share Posted 29April, 2014 Could fill the voids with some silicone. If not to your liking, just drill it out again.
Pauly Posted 29April, 2014 Report Share Posted 29April, 2014 So the consensus seems to be they work and make a difference and are not simply a con? Yes they do indeed make a difference. I've done this to my 944. I filled my mount with urethane. Did it make a difference. I hear a small amount of noise. barely noticeable. Because the transaxel is in the back, you've got the linkage that goes all the way to the back so little movement on the gearshifter side is a lot on the gearbox side. Pauly Posted 29April, 2014 Report Share Posted 29April, 2014 Could fill the voids with some silicone. If not to your liking, just drill it out again. Wouldn't recommend. over time silicone can shrink and is quite soft. wouldn't notice much difference. could use sikaflex 267 is the one you'd use. A cheaper one is 227 which is a little softer. webrest Posted 29April, 2014 Report Share Posted 29April, 2014 Steve on the other hand is a big soft teddy and the extra vibration was hurting his bottom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I will pay for this, I'm sure) Even as a passenger in Steve993 car it was bloody irritating, noisy clicking and vibration. Turned a perfectly nice road car into annoying transport, and that is from the passenger seat. We pulled it out on my hoist immediately after returning from a DakDak morning. [better to replace on the hoist rather than Steve's scissor lift, a bit more awkward to get out on the rear wheel drives.] These things are not race cars where extraneous noise is irrelevant, however both Jim and Theo's cars are tractors and they don't seem to be as affected nearly as much. They are of course different and that probably is the reason but under no circumstances was the perceived gain in usability worth the aggravation. IMO Don't think that it will give you an edge over Stevo he will still be able to blow you into the weeds if he wants LOL The decision is yours carrera28 but you have been warned. Tit Posted 29April, 2014 Report Share Posted 29April, 2014 I purchased Steve's engine mounts. I noticed there is quite a bit of play between around the bolt and the sleeve the bolt drops through. I'm sure this would be very noisy. This might be an anomoly as no one else seems to have noted this issue about wevo blacks on any of the forums. I'm going to get a thicker sleeve machined to remove the play before I put it in...

But when you put a sleeve in it, it may create a different noise. more sharp. But it all depends on how solid the mount is.
