550Spyder Posted 10May, 2014 Report Share Posted 10May, 2014 Team Clearly there are a pile of different colour combos, however out of the following options what do we think is the best if you were building up a RSR backdate. Grey with orange carrera decals http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads20/P32180171333842321.jpg Orange with black carrera decals http://www.classicdriver.com/en/car/porsche/911-rsr/1973/144761 Ivory white with orange decals http://www.autothority.co.nz/images/project-rsr-01.jpg Clearly these combos will not be to everyone's taste but keen on views. Would be against a black interior with leather / houndstooth seats. Views?
Caledonian Posted 10May, 2014 Report Share Posted 10May, 2014 Surprisingly i'm drawn towards the Grey! kind of says "Wolf in Wolfs clothing" They all look good and it may be the angle of the pic.....
LeeM Posted 10May, 2014 Report Share Posted 10May, 2014 Personally, the Grey with the black as per the photo I love the orange cars, but dare to be different I reckon
hugh Posted 10May, 2014 Report Share Posted 10May, 2014 They all look good IMO. I guess it depends on what you want to build, classic 70's build can scream colour but something like that grey (almost a darker primer) looks pretty contemporary on a retro 70's recreation. If I bought a car to do this that had an interesting original colour I'd keep it- makes the decision a lot easier!
Ben C3.o Posted 10May, 2014 Report Share Posted 10May, 2014 Like the other I like the grey because it's different but for me I would be tossing up between Viper Green or Continental Orange. Signal Orange not so much but depending on what the period correct colour was for an RSR.
Peter M Posted 10May, 2014 Report Share Posted 10May, 2014 Colour doesn't matter, they all look great! (IMHO - What's makes the difference is that if they have chrome headlight surrounds, they must have bright anodised window surrounds too otherwise it looks like the builder lost interest and rushed the finishing.) tk111 Posted 10May, 2014 Report Share Posted 10May, 2014 I am a sucker for Signal Orange! These cars are not about being subtle, if they were they would have an audi badge on the front
Black Pearl Posted 10May, 2014 Report Share Posted 10May, 2014 Hi Have you described your build on another thread there? I'd be keen to see as I'd love to do one myself some time? What did you use as the base car? Is it a frankensrsr? Team Clearly there are a pile of different colour combos, however out of the following options what do we think is the best if you were building up a RSR backdate. SteveT Posted 10May, 2014 Report Share Posted 10May, 2014 All awesome but I lean towards the white with orange decals. Will look hot with black leather - houndstooth interior.
Quozl Posted 11May, 2014 Report Share Posted 11May, 2014 The Grey, or the Orange not feeling the white. Or Chris Harris green

Tit Posted 11May, 2014 Report Share Posted 11May, 2014 Slate grey often looks classy with chrome... But lots of colour otherwise. +1 for the green!
clutch-monkey Posted 11May, 2014 Report Share Posted 11May, 2014 i would happily have all of those colour combos.. i love the slate grey. but that said i feel RSR's shoudl be ballsy colours so orange/green!
Russ Posted 11May, 2014 Report Share Posted 11May, 2014 love the slate grey too, but maybe consider: orange is good too, or viper green

Harvs11 Posted 11May, 2014 Report Share Posted 11May, 2014 Oh and if you really want to go crazy here is every Porsche colour to choose from since 1950 onwardsI know this is OT. But check out the sorry state of the Nepal Orange 914. Must be rare if this is the best example they could find.

550Spyder Posted 12May, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 12May, 2014 Team EXTERIOR DELIMA Thanks for the opinions on colour. I had hoped there would be a clear winner but the voting looks very evenly matched. I really like the grey, as a number of you point out gives thar car a very contemporary look and great accent with the polished /chrome surrounds. Drawback is it is not really period and lacks a little theatre. I am warming up to orange (I will need to do some homework on shades). Just not sure if a houndstooth seats would clash with the orange? White has the advantage that for $200 you can change the appearance with a new sticker kit. Gives the option of orange, red, green, blue and black all true to the original colours, plus the hounds tooth will look sensational. I am still torn and confused, however life is good when this is a big dilemma. Still some time to decide. INTERIOR DILEMMA I have a few more dilemmas to post and seek your council on. Next delimina is interior materials. Going for an all black interior including a RS dash and the basket weave glovebox facia strip with the aluminium highlights. Will put a lakewell RSR carpet kit in (or similar) plus protipo wheel. Has RS door trims. I am toying with adding some alcantera, most likely for the dash but also potentially the doors. I think the headliner will just be too obscure and I won't appreciate it given the cost. Does any one have any experience with alcantera? How does it wear? What does the team think? Quozl Posted 12May, 2014 Report Share Posted 12May, 2014 Our Carerra S headliner is alcantara and it looks fantastic, a friend also has replaced his headliner in his R32 with alcantara in a matching light grey for his interior and it looks brilliant. No wear issues to speak of.
