911/914 Steering rack - parts

Gents I'm in a pickle. I'm in the last 10 days of my rebuild deadline is 28th may

Steering rack is apart looking good excepting for the oil seal and shims...

I'd prefer not to spend money on a rebuilt rack when I'm only after parts costing perhaps $15-20

Does anyone have these or a parts rack they can help out with...

Thx michel

CBC bearings on my to do today.

Shims bearings will be ok to find - the oil seal maybe trickier - had been hearing the ZF aren't that free with the rack parts preferring to sell new racks complete.

Shims are just super thin washers

You have probably seen this: http://www.performanceforum.com/wesvann/914a/steering-rack/steering-rack.html

is this a different rack from yours? no seal apart from an o-ring. You can aways get shim stock (sheet of shim material) and make your own, a bit of work but not too difficult if you have no other option.

Hi seen that and yes a different rack, it is post 74.

This is close to the same as mine. The other difficulty is trying to establish the original supplier pt numbers to establish if there is an interchange part. All the early racks no longer show up on supplier databases, typically been superseded imagejpg1-2.jpg

I've found a few posts that enigmatically refer to 'I found that oil seal', but they never post the pt number or a reference image.

Still looking. Though may have to find a temporary substitute / replacement while I persist with rebuilding the original rack.

Anyone have a spare rack to loan or sell?
