SteveT Posted 2July, 2014 Report Share Posted 2July, 2014 Hi, I was thinking of having my front seats recovered in leather. The idea started when I asked the upholsterer 2 doors up for a price to repair my vinyl seats and has kind of grown from there as they do. He has quoted around $2,000 for the 2 front seats, full leather front, sides, back including rejuvenating the foam as required. Has anyone got any idea if this is a good price or not? AD911S Posted 2July, 2014 Report Share Posted 2July, 2014 I paid $1800 for two vintage recaro,s in fabric about 16 years ago, they had to do them twice as the first time looked like the apprentice did them My advice is to check out some seats he has done just to be sure as it is a very skilled job
twood Posted 2July, 2014 Report Share Posted 2July, 2014 I had my seats (plus new carpets and colour change the dash) recovered here in Brisbane and was very happy with the result. It was a older guy in Annerley who does the work under the house. happy to pass on details if you want.

LeeM Posted 2July, 2014 Report Share Posted 2July, 2014 Shop around, as the P tax seems to be added in your quote. Tell them theyre Porsche seats for your 70's Beetle. That should reduce the price a bit

SteveT Posted 5July, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 5July, 2014 Easy! Just get the kitchen utensils out to the shed and 9 minutes later you have a perfect seat! Those Cobras are looking better all the time.......
SteveT Posted 5July, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 5July, 2014 Answer to my email to Revolution Racegear. "Steve the seats are made by Cobra to the British standard which we can provided a copy of for your engineer to sign off on. As far as fitting up to the 911 is concerned, the easy way around this is to have two flat bars (say 4mm min) welded / bolted across the existing seat slides to which the seats are mounted." roodog911 Posted 8July, 2014 Report Share Posted 8July, 2014 Steve, Last year I put Cobra Misano's in my SC. Ordered through Revolution and apart from having to wait approximately 6 months, all went fine. In the Cobra catalogue it says that my seats comply with the relevant ADR standard. I also ordered the appropriate slider for my car at the same time. When I bolted them into the car, just had to put some small spacers under the sliders, otherwise all good. Drop me a line if you need more info. Cheers Antony
SteveT Posted 8July, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 8July, 2014 Hi Antony, after looking at the Cobra website it looks like they sell LH & RH mounting brackets, is that one per seat or a pair per seat? And it says Mod. Runners which I presume means some modification required. Maybe your spacer washers. Looks good, just need to get Revolution to wake up and answer my reply email. Thanks for the info mate. Steve
Cal Posted 8July, 2014 Report Share Posted 8July, 2014 Ordered through Revolution and apart from having to wait approximately 6 months, all went fine. I bought mine from Demon Tweeks in the UK and they took 6 days! They were $980 AUD delivered for the pair. They also offered 6 different trim options. Revolution only offered the 1 and didn't know what I was talking about when I said I wanted Cord centres. http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/seats-fixed-back/cobra-classic-rs-seat
hugh Posted 8July, 2014 Report Share Posted 8July, 2014 I believe that Phil Lack from the Typ 901 register has a some proper reproduction seats. It may be worth getting in touch with him before you lock in the Cobra seats. Probably some of the coolest ones I have seen available, especially locally (Aus). Cal Posted 9July, 2014 Report Share Posted 9July, 2014 There are also all of these, but at the end of the day I couldn't get close to the Cobras for value. There is no question there are better options albeit at a much higher price. http://www.classiccarseats.com/index.php

Phil is the Oz distributor for GT Classics. I know he has supplied seats to a lot of TYP901 members and seems to know a lot about the correct fittings/seat height. PM him at e72phil. e72phil Posted 9July, 2014 Report Share Posted 9July, 2014 Hi to all who have commented on this thread. Have spoken with Steve and also been alerted to this thread by other TYP901'ers who know me. I joined this Forum a while ago but havent posted much, Just to correct a few comments, Doug thought I was the distributor for GTS Classics (Classic car seats) from USA. I am not but I did start working with Stefan many years ago when he was also distributing BF Torino seats from Italy. Stefan now builds his own seats in the USA. many or copies of the BF Torino designs. BF has been around over 30 years making car seats and is based in Torino (Turin) Italy and has built seats for many well known Italian car manufacturers. The Cobra seats referred to are a UK company and our Nurburgring model (B10) is not a rebadged Cobra. We build all our own seats and dont do any rebadged models for others. This seat is a reproduction of a popular seat of the late 60's and 70's by Recaro and others. My particular interest is in period seats to suit our early Porsche 911's and also G series (like SteveT wants). It all started when I was building a replica of a 911R - which I still have, and needed some correct seats for it. Once I have a new website working I planned to register as a paid sponsor of this Forum and offer our products here. I was the Founding President of the TYP901 register and also helped start our very early 901 Forum over on Yahoo. I own 5 pre 73 911's and have the disease quite bad. regds, Phil
D-banger Posted 9July, 2014 Report Share Posted 9July, 2014 Sorry about the misinformation there Phil. The idea got stuck in my head from your GTS C logo still on TYP901. Anyway Steve has been able to get in contact, so all is good.
Cal Posted 9July, 2014 Report Share Posted 9July, 2014 I also apologise for the insinuation that the Nurburgring was the same as a Cobra RS. I have deleted my comment and will this one if you like. Can you please PM me some details on the 911R clone you have for sale.

SteveT Posted 9July, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 9July, 2014 Phil, can you advise re ADR compliance on replacement seats? As my car is a 1976 model, do replacement seats need to comply to any ADR or other standard?
