[VIC] Who would actually attend a track day?

If there are enough takers we can hire Calder for around 10K I believe - my GP and his group of runners have hired it quite a few times. PI is around 25K and I believe Sandown is roughly 10-15K. The wife isnt around so I cannot ask her what they paid last time they hired the tracks.

I am in whilst I still have the 911......

If we cannot get the numbers required to hire a track just for ourselves, joining one of the various club track days or even a commercially run event is a good option. Group discounts can be negotiated.

If we do it right, we might be able to run our own group.

I'd be in that.

Another major consideration, getting marshall's, medical, etc takes a lot of organising.

The best thing to do would be to contact the guys at driverdynamics.

They do track days at Sandown and its very well run.

I am sure they would put you all in the one group if you ask, and can get 8 to 10 cars for the day.

The last one I did was around $300 for the day. that is good value IMO.

You will find after 3 or 4 15min sessions , most will have had enough, you can just pack up and go when you like.

Its a great day, you can go flat out or at your own pace.

I am not sure any other open track day will have the ability to accommodate you as a group.

Good luck :)

Guys the best and safest way to get yourself out on the track is with your Porsche club.

Here in NSW our organisers place the cars in what we call speed groups, usually ranging from 1-6. Even if you have not been on a track before they will try and put you in a position that the car in front of you is slightly faster and the car behind you is slightly slower. This is the safest position to be in on the track especially if its your first time. The NSW Porsche club even send out first timers behind one of the experienced drivers for you to get the correct lines and braking zones in the first session for the day.

We have many open track days here in NSW and to tell you the truth it can be quite dangerous. Having very fast and very slow cars in one group is not what you want. There has been a few track days we have been to in the past with race cars that will dive bomb on you in the corners. If your not use to it it can be nerve racking.

As Harv's has mentioned the Porsche clubs have all the marshals, medicals and flaggies organised for the events. The last benefit is that usually you get a few specialists shops attending, Here we have Autohaus Hamilton, PR tech and ourselves to help out any of the drivers on the day.

Regards

Sean

The Formula Company run a very good event at Sandown also.

I think we could organise a group discount.

They have instructors on site for novices (ok for me) and other sections for more experienced drivers (everyone else)

I'd be keen on that.

What are you thinking Pauly?  You have a cunning plan ?

Since some of you are concerned about numbers, helpers mentioned. ect.

This is what i'm thinking.

A friend of mine is an event organiser, he runs a car club. One of the events is the one i posted about Sandown... Cars & Coffee.

I asked him how he feels about running a track day. He said it's on his bucket list of things to do. I mentioned to him that a number of guys from the PFA would be interested in a track day, but the deal would be to keep it with a moderate amount of cars and with out idiots who will get black flagged breaking rules ect. His response was that it sounded like an awesome idea and he'd only involve people he knows.

HE also mentioned he would like to collaborate it with the cars and coffee so people can come down and spectate, have something to eat while spectating or hanging out talking cars.

Before anything happens. I will talk to Kerry ect, and see what happens.

but at the moment, just want to see who will actually attend

I'd be interested. Although remember people have to have a CAMS license for Sandown.

If it's Winton you want to do I could easily help out with that and get my hands on the application form and fulfilling planning requirements and they only need a AASA which should be available on the day.

I'm also happy to setup a private skid pan day once all the planning, insurance and legal requirements are sorted for the facility we are setting up which should be available around Feb/March of next year.

Pauly, with all due respect, the idea of your friend running a trackday with no experience scares the shit out of me.

I can see where you're coming from. I take no offence to it. Just remember one thing, Everyone starts somewhere, no matter who you are how old you are or what you drive.

I never said he has never been associated with a track day before. All i said was its on his bucket list as he has his own car club.

I'm only seeing who and how many are interested in a track day and maybe something can come out of it for the PFA internally for the forum.

Well now I have to question why are you so against the Porsche Club of Victoria track days? Why would you not attend a trackday that is professionally run, in all likelihood cheaper and puts the safety of the drivers first compared to what you are suggesting?

I've never been against the PVC track days. I never said that?

Look i don't want to get into a heated discussion.

All i'm doing is getting feedback on who'd be interested, that is all.

If you're not interested, that's fine by me.

Not everyone wants to join the PCV and not everyone want's to join an alternative club either, Their choice, i cannot help that.

Haunted Hills can be had at $2500, say 30 cars thats $84 for a day at the Hillclimb. Run one at a time against the clock at your own pace.

Let me know if interested as a Venue.

Now where talking....l'd be in on this one.

When we did the Targa Tassie and booked the Symmons Plains race track there was not one incident . it was such a blast and we had the track to our selves for the whole day. It was first track time for a lot of us but it all worked out perfectly fine and that was with about 23 cars.!!

I've done Haunted Hills a few times now. Wouldn't recommend it for the first event with newbies as I've seen a number of written off cars with at least one at each event I've been to. Although the first time I went 'oh sh*t' corner claimed 3 wrx's and 2 evo's. Anyone who's attended a day there should be able to understand where I'm coming from if the first track PFA event held in Victoria.

Haunted Hill's is a AASA track too so it's not that hard to get organised.

Yes. There is no kitty litter at that corner, so he just went over the dirt into the embankment.

I like run-off.   Especially for novice track drivers who tend to go backwards thru at least one corner per trackday.  :o
